The hotel or pension, is very old so expect everything you would find from a 400 year old building. It is located in a beautiful spot at the edge of the old Chania town, just 30 seconds walk from the sea-front. The owners are very friendly and we ended up chatting away for an hour about our travels. The stairs going up to the rooms are old, steep and very interesting. The hotel is very authentic, old style, with tall ceilings and the view from the top of the hotel looking down to Chania town and port are amazing. The room we stayed at was huge for two people. There was a large bed, lots of tables and chairs, air conditioning and small tv (that we never used), clean bathroom and two large windows. There was also a small upstairs within the room, sort of an attic, with two more beds that we did not use. There is self-serve breakfast at the roof top but don't expect anything fancy. If you are a foodie, you have to try the traditional bougatsa from Iordanis (Jordanis). It is about 20 mins walk from the hotel but worth it! For 60 Euro in the middle of the high season in August, you can't beat the price and value!

Room Tip: The middle floor is best to avoid the heat of the summer.

We booked 2 nights here in September and arrived at 1am. Maria was waiting for us, and very helpful and friendly. Our room was very small for a couple, but was okay for 2 nights. The bathroom was quite smelly unfortunately and the shower leaked. It's a very old house with beautiful wooden floors and interesting architectural features and in a superb location. The roof terrace has a tremendous view and the self-service breakfast is a nice idea, though the kitchen can get a bit crowded. I would recommend this place for the location and the friendly service, but we didn't feel the facilities in our room justified the price we paid.

Room Tip: Room 6 is very small for a couple, and has no fridge and very little clothes storage space.

My favourite hotel in Chania!
Few meters away from the sea and close to everything.
Maria(the owner) is always there to help you and advise you how to discover the secrets of Chania and neighbouring areas.
I will highly recommend this place to anyone who wants something different, not usual...

A corner in Chania harbour rich of authentic cretan atmoshpere. We took a 'big room' for 60€ per night and the view was amazing (on the old harbour). The position is good and central. Wr were sad to change room the third night.

Just spent two nights here with my wife and 4 year old son. Location is amazing and the views from the roof terrace are unbeatable. We stayed in the terrace room and did not have any problems with noise. Breakfast is a self service affair and was difficult to work out what was provided and what belonged to other guests. Once we got the hang of it though it was fine and having access to a kitchen was a bonus to chill your bottle of wine before enjoying a late evening drink on the roof terrace. Maria was very charming going out of her way to help us when hire car did not work out as planned and made our son welcome with gifts.

Having read the excellent TA reviews for Pension Theresa we were looking forward to a three day stay here. We had a room on the top floor as all the other rooms were booked. We knew it would be old and with lots of steps...not a problem. We were expecting charming and quirky and what we got was run down and dirty, poor maintenance and slack management. The first day our small bathroom stank.......really badly.....then we had a shower and realised the water from the shower floor ran straight onto the bathroom floor drenching the floor mat and everything else. We thought maybe management didn't know, OK we'll let them know so they can fix it. So we found Maria and told her and she said they knew about t his and just yesterday had put silicon around as the water had been leaking into the room below......so they had bunged some silicone around again and not tested it but rented the room out again. No wonder the bathroom stank....this smelt of years of dirt, urine and damp and not being cleaned properly. The cleaner needs to be introduced to bleach and disinfectant. We almost went out and bought air freshener it was that bad. The electrical wiring is dodgy, it looks like it has never been upgraded and there are wires and plugs in all sorts of odd situations. The fire instructions on the back of the door instruct you not to use the elevator......there is no elevator! If there was a fire and you were on the top floor there is no escape plan the only way out is down the central wooden stairs.....and they would be the thing burning in a concrete building. The fire window/landing on the floor below has big lumps of rock on it.....if you were in a hurry this would be a danger. The furnishings are like someones old cast offs.......not antique but odd, mismatched and not really adding to the guest experience. However the location is good....right on the old harbour which also means you hear constant late night bar and nightclub noise into the wee hours. The roof terrace is great, the free loaf of bread provided daily on the roof terrace hardly compensates for everything else being so shoddy.....but really there are much nicer, cleaner, safer options to stay in the old harbour. The previous reviews completely over sell and romanticise a very average/poor pension in a great location. Yes its cheap, but we have stayed in much better places for the same price. We like old, we don't mind steps......we don't like dirty, unsafe and places that are a rip off...which this place was

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless you can hold your breath ever time you go to the bathroom. Don't be...

Yes, this is our favourite hotel in Chania and we have been here before. I have not reviewed it before for selfish reasons: I want it to keep being available and when people know how charming and cheap this place is, it will fill up quickly. But the country is in crisis and everybody needs all the help they can get.
The retired doctor that runs this strange and beautiful place is a true gentleman and his daughter is witty, charming and helpful. But most of the time you help yourself, since they are rarely to find.
That is no problem, since this place has it's own system. A hand written sign on the door tells which rooms are available and the cost (fron 30 to 50 Euro). You are told to go inside (key is in the door), take a look and if you like the room, just take the key and it's yours.
This is not for the unfit, since it's 45 steps to the first floor and another 22 to the second, where you find the roof terrace. The view from the terrace is magnificent and in the kitchen you will find everything you need to make your own breakfast, including fresh bread and home made marmelade.
The rooms are all different and very personal. It's like being in a guest room in someone's home rather than in a hotel. And that is how it is - the owner lives in the house.
Next to the hotel is the Meltemi Café, on of our favorites. Perfect for a snack or a coffee.
I could go on and on about this. But who wants to read long reviews?

Room Tip: Room number one has the best view. But they are all good.
