“Good food, lovely space”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

I read lots of reviews of this place before leaving on our trip to Greece, and had high expectations of the restaurant, so we were both disappointed by the experience. I gave it a "4" though, because the the mezes were terrific, although the main dishes were not so great. We ate a second time, and had a similar experience. It's a comfortable and casual place, with an open interior space which is warm and attractive, and we found the service good. I wouldn't want to sit outside, though, as it's along a narrow pedestrian pathway!

From my notes after our first dinner, I wrote:
"Ate at Tamam and had waaay too much. We ordered 3 mezes- each terrific: fried zucchini fritters fried potatoes w/ warm local cheese, and marinated anchovies. Delicious -- shoud've stopped there. We also ordered lamb chops and a veal dish with pureed eggplant. The lamb chops were tough and the veal wasn't to my liking. We were super stuffed by the time we left. Nice though, they gave us a raki and semolina dessert on the house, neither one of which could we finish."

“Good Food, Bad Service”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Despite the smoking ban in Greece, people smoke in the premises and the staff won't even let you open a window.

These people still have a lot to learn about good manners and hospitality.

Dear Sir,
First of all on behalf of the management and the staff of the restaurant we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during your visit in our restaurant.
You are absolutely right about the smoking ban, however our premises consist of a smoking and a non-smoking area. I am sure you were offered the choice and were warned that the part you decided to sit was a smoking area.
We promise that we will do our best for your next visit to be pleasant and smoke free.

“Great Place for a cosy Winter or Spring/Autumn dinner”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We went back to Tamam last week and found it on very good form. All our food was delicious - local Cretan dishes and the house wine was a good accompaniment. The service was good too and the setting, inside an old hammam in the back streets, is very cosy in Winter. Lots of locals eat there then - quite a contrast to high summer when the place feels more cramped and touristy/

“Our Favorite Restaurant in Crete!”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

My husband and I embarked on a tour of the Island of Crete last August!

During the days we spent on the island, we managed to visit all the major cities and attractions and spend a few days in stunning Chania!

Tamam happened to be in close proximity to our hotel (Nostos) and we quickly noticed that it was absolutely packed at any given time and decided to give it a try!

Needless to say that once we had dinner there once, we never tried any other restaurants in Chania.. The food there is AMAZING! Their Tas Kebab is my personal favorite and have been craving it ever since!

Hands down the best place to eat quality food in Chania - and BTW, we are Greek!

“Forget the rest try the best... tamam a shining star in an otherwise dull variety of restaurants”
Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

Tamam set in the old town of chania down a small back street. The decor is traditional and it fills up quickly so reservations advisable if you don't want to wait. The food is well priced and tastes great. The most amazing salad ever tamam salad.. the chicken pancakes are an unusal twist on the spring rolls theme . The pork fillrt with staka amazing and good scalloped chipped potatoes. Having tried other restaurants in the area.. this is the only one to eat at.
