In our week's stay in Chania, (our first visit to Crete), we fell in love with the funky, winding little alleyways of the old town and chose to eat a different one of their charming restaurants every night. But Portes, was by far and away, our favourite place to dine. Wonderfully extensive and diverse selection on the menu, friendliest of staff, plus the charm of sitting at a small table outdoors in a small lane, listening to talented Greek musicians while wearing shorts and T-shirt every night, (knowing it would be cold and drizzling rain every night and day back home in England),... just made this restaurant like a dream of heaven for us. Go there. You won't regret this piece of well-intentioned advice.
