Description: This is a small family owned restaurant which has operated in the Old Harbour of Hania since 2004.We have recently moved to our new premises on the water front on Nea Hora Beach with ample seating along the beautiful harbour there. As you approach the restaurant you can't help but notice our charming decor featuring old doors as the name "PORTES" means doors. The Irish owner/chef offers her customers a blend of trend and tradition with her unique recipes. All ingredients are fresh, seasonal, local and bought daily.Recipes are designed depending on the season and availability therefore be sure to checkout the blackboard displaying new dishes and daily specials."Portes" also offers a wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes. We open our doors each day and welcome our customers.

“Tucked away - a little bit of paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

The irish chef and owner, Suzanne, makes this place, with special dishes playing on Greek themes. You can sit outside (summer) or inside (off season). the food is always worth savouring. Book in summer to avoid disappointment. Been many times and never left disappointed.

“Totally enjoyable experience, again and again!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

We've visited Portes on numerous occasions - in fact every time we visit Chania! The experience is not to be missed. Susanna, the owner, is very friendly and welcoming. The food is gorgeous. If you get the chance, let Susanna pick what you eat, you won't be disappointed!

“Average.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

We ate here after reading the 'Lonely Panet' guide to Crete. In truth we had an average meal..and probably our least enjoyable dinner of the week. The setting is fine-on a delightful tiny side street but the meal didn't warrant the rating in the guide book. All in all, somewhat of a disappointment.

“A rare gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Excellent food with really good salads not just your usual tomatoes and cucumber and feta. Really enjoyed trying the different home made dishes in particular the Fava dip with caramellised onions was a real surprise. So many restaurants to chose from but this is worth seeking out.
