My wife and I went here with two friends for a meal,I know it's off peak here at the moment, but the service was terrible, the main reason was the waiter was so miserable,he made it plain to us that we were not wanted, there was only one other table with guests and he hardly spoke to them at all.
At this time of year they have a basic winter menu, understandably, but, the first four choices we made, got a shake of the head.
I eventually chose grilled chicken with chips, and that was exactly what I got,a piece of chicken and a few luke warm chips,no garnishing ,not even a slice of tomato for a bit of colour.
Anyway, don't go there in the winter months or the summer unless you are a rich Russian or American staying at the local 5star hotel.

Thank Ron W

We had heard all the best for this tavern so we visited but it was a tragic mistake. The food untasty, the staff rude and the owner nowhere to complain.

There are lots of restaurants in Plaka in similar position overlooking the sea. For our visit it was a litle intimidating with the heavy handed touting for business as you strolled along the street. Giovanni's touting was less intimidating than most - but interestingly seemed to get the lion's share of the trade from what we saw.

Recommended by our hotel (Selena) - and fish was certainly very good quality - reflected in the price. Good service, nice starters.

I was really bummed by the end of this meal. Not just because we were told that the fish that was brought to the table cost us 170 Euros but because if not for that this place would get 5 stars. The food is great, but it's unfortunate the owners see tourist as walking wallets. When it comes to fish - ask exactly what it'll cost you before you order...

Recently visited Plaka for the morning and decided to stop in Georgos taverna (Giovannis) for a cool beer and to marvel at the stunning view of Spinalonga. It was breathtaking. We were served two beautiful cold beers by a young lad called Yannis who also brought us complementary fresh anchovies. As it was pre lunch time he chatted to us and showed us the menu and his friendliness made us decide there and then to return the following night for dinner. We booked a table and Yannis promised the same lovely table at the window overlooking the sea. The next evening didn't disappoint in any way with the same fabulous welcome and excellent food washed down with excellent house wine. The restaurant soon filled up and had a great atmosphere. Would say it would definitely be best to book at night time. After dinner we were given raki on the house which we sipped as we watched the sun go down and Spinalonga sink into darkness and finally Yannis called us a taxi to take us home. The meal was beautiful and very reasonably priced and we were only sorry we hadn't found it on previous visits to Crete but we will be back. Young Yannis is definitely an asset to this restaurant and will make you very welcome.
