We joined the 3hr train tour on October 11th. The tour visits an olive oil farm, then goes to a town/church up in the hills overlooking Agios Nikolaos, and finishes with a visit to the village of Kritsos. The tour is very basic and it is very difficult to hear and understand the speaker who we assumed was giving some information about the areas we were passing. The seating is very tight and may be uncomfortable for anyone who has knee problems or is tall. The views from the hills are impressive. On a nice day this is a good way to spend an afternoon if you have nothing else to do. It gave us a better sense of the layout of the town and area.

The train picks you up next to where the cruise ships dock, They do two tours, one was an hour and one I think for two hours. They have a tour guide who was very knowledgable and friendly. We opted for the longer tour which took us way up into the hills with stunning views across the coast line. It is a great way to see the town and surrounding areas.

Not the usual sort of thing we would do but had a great afternoon and met some brilliant people! We opted for the longest tour which took you first to an olive farm. You get to see how it was made many years ago and taste the lovely olives, oil, olive paste, raki and wine amongst other things. Next stop was on the way to Kritsa at a monastery with amazing carvings into the walls (E3 entry), then on to Kritsa in the mountains. Beautiful little village with lots of side streets if you wander away from the main tourist bit, You can have an hour here and as we had gone past lunch we decided to eat. Not enough time to explore so we went later in the week on the bus! Cant remember the name of the taverna but it was up the hill towards the main street, just on the left on a corner. Superb meal of swordfish. Back to the train then back to Agios with a running commentary as we went. Very relaxed and had a good laugh at the same time! Think we paid E20 for the two of us which was good as we left at 12.30 and didn't get back unitl 4pm.

We spent 10 days in Crete near Agios Nikolaos and went on the Little Train twice - we did excursion 2 which lasts just over an hour and takes you up the coast just short of Elounda - the views are spectacular. We enjoyed it so much we then went on excursion 3 which lasts nearly 4 hours (with stops) and takes you up into the mountains and inland to a very pretty village, Kritsos. It is a wonderfully easy way to see more of the island. Highly recommended.

We stopped at this port of Agios Nikolaos while on a cruise ship. As the tours on our ship were not good value and I get motion sick on buses we decided on the Little train tour. I loved it. It was very Informative and we got excellent views, and on a very hot day it was actually cooler on the train. I would recommend doing tours with this company while in Agios Nikolaos.
