Having just came back from Agios Nikolaos I thought will post a quick review. Location of the hotel is absolutely perfect - 3 mins walk to the beach, 4 mins to major Greek supermarket - get out of the hotel, turn right, and take first road up, to the giant stairs.. (!!) Walk up and the supermarket is there. Great to get some water too. On the same street by the way there is the best we've been Greek restaurant (opposite Museum), with most awesome orange liqueur cake for dessert. 2 mins walk from supermarket. Okay, back to the hotel. We had a room with a street view, which was really good actually as we could sit at the balcony in the evenings and just enjoy a bit of the Greek way of life.. On the 5th floor there is most amazing swimming pool with awesome views across the bay - which unfortunately closes at 6. That's the only downsize. Beds were comfortable, apartments well equipped, hairdryers were there as well. Cleanliness - not amazing here, floor seems to be never washed - albeit very clean as the apartment (we kept it this way!), towels were changes daily and nicely arranged, but cups, or empty glass was never touched. So seems all they were changing were beds. But! Alantha is only 4 mins walk from the centre - fantastic for quick walk there and back at literally any time. Additionally, awesome owner, and Christie at the bar - makes fantastic omelettes. Internet works in apartments with no problem. Beautiful place, with perfect location, if I visit Crete again - certainly will only stay at Alantha - and try to negotiate longer swimming pool and bar opening hours!

My husband and I have been going to Agios Nikolaos on holiday ( sometimes twice a year ) since 1983. We have stayed in various types of accomodation in and around the town. We booked into Alantha for a wedding Oct.27th. It was a great hotel, imaculate, Lisa the housekeeper has the hotel shining like a new pin.Beds changed every other day and towels, more frequently if required. The price did not match the service we received, Antoni the manager also went above and beyond all expectations and we will certainly be back.The only draw back was the transfer to the hotel, it took the coach 2.5 hours, then it droped us off at the promanade for us to climb a hill that to me seemed the north face of everst, poorly lit narrow lane with no direction of hotel.definately will go by taxi next time, could not be easier for the town only a five minute walk, but a hill on the way back, taxi from town only 5 euros.
