My husband and I have been going to Agios Nikolaos on holiday ( sometimes twice a year ) since 1983. We have stayed in various types of accomodation in and around the town. We booked into Alantha for a wedding Oct.27th. It was a great hotel, imaculate, Lisa the housekeeper has the hotel shining like a new pin.Beds changed every other day and towels, more frequently if required. The price did not match the service we received, Antoni the manager also went above and beyond all expectations and we will certainly be back. The only draw back was the transfer to the hotel, it took the coach 2.5 hours, then it droped us off at the promanade for us to climb a hill that to me seemed the north face of everst, poorly lit narrow lane with no direction of hotel.definately will go by taxi next time, could not be easier for the town only a five minute walk, but a hill on the way back, taxi from town only 5 euros.

Room Tip: we had two rooms, 304 to front thrid floor has half decent view of the sea,

We stayed here with our teenage daughter in October half term. We knew that this was the last week of the season so we chose this area as there is still a lot to do at this late stage.

We had a lovely stay in the Alantha. We found the apartments in a good residential location within easy reach of the town and beach. Lisa (who is fantastic), came to clean and change towels/ bed linen on a daily basis. I didn't expect this attention on a 'budget' holiday. The apartment (402) was spacious for 3/4 with a separate bedroom and 2 balconies. We had a well stocked kitchen are and a good sized fridge. You can easily cater for a family. We also enjoyed the large terrace just outside. We are very reasonably in Ag Nik by avoiding the lakeside restaurants. . I would definately come and stay here again probably in September as there would be more going on.

The bus station is just a 5 minute walk away and other villages etc can be reached for a day trip easily.

This is our 3rd year at the Alantha. Apart from the climb up the stairs to get there, it is well worth it. The rooms are a good size and the cleanliness of the whole complex is excellent due to the hard work of the staff, namely Lisa and Constantinos who are both cheerful and helpful. The pool bar is run by Christine who is a font of knowledge when it comes to restaurants and places of interest to visit. The pool is at the top of the building with stunning views over the bay, the only downside is the space for beds round the pool. Plenty good restaurants within a short walk of the apartments. Would certainly recommend the Alantha for anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday. The only thing we would point out is, that if you come by transfer you are dropped at the hotel on the front and you certainly have a bit of a climb up stairs to the apartments and transfer can take up to 2 hours.

As other reviews say the apartments are located in a residential area, we found the location really handy for walking into the main town area as well as beaches and the bus to elounda etc. There is a very short steep hill up to the apartments so the transfer coach drops you off at the bottom of this so although not a problem for most people it would be if you had difficulty walking. One thing we did find a bit frustrating was there was very low prescence on reception during the day - at night there was a very helpful night porter but in the day time no-one. You could go up to the bar/swimming pool to find someone but this was a hassle. We didn't use the pool as prefered to swim in the sea but the area had a good view if a little cramped (I guess to be expected in an area close to town). Our apartment was spacious and immaculately clean with plenty of clean towels. We had a brilliant holiday and found the location to be very convienient but I think it was most suited to a couple such as ourselves rather than a family. We found the town very friendly with lots of good places to eat and swim etc.

I'm in total shock as to why this 'hotel has such good reviews!!!! We stayed here after having spent 6nights in Malia,we were looking forward to entering a chic, modern, airy hotel. How wrong we were!!! On arrival there was no one available at reception with no way of alerting them of our presence,it was 1pm in the afternoon!!!! Our room key card along with a personalised letter was on the reception desk (anyone could have picked them up),we proceded to the room where on entering the beds were unmade, dirty towels in the bathroom and just not tidy. We told a lady whom we spotted and she got the room sorted, however we were gutted and just didn't stay here. The hotel is in a residential area, lots of building noise and dogs apping. The rooms are very 1980's,air con is chargeable at 8euros per day!!! We really wanted to enjoy the Alantha but didn't,luckily it didn't spoil our trip as we simply booked in somewhere else in Ag Nik. Disappointed.
