3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2008

me and my boyfriend were there in september/october.
I think it was ok.not wonderful and not terrible.
the hotel was very nice and the staff in the reception was very friendly. but I didnt think the staff in the breakfast and in the bar was very friendly.we had all inclusive but it was the same food every day and you could drink as much as you want in the bar and it was great but every time you went to the bar to take something more to drink it felt like they didnt like it.
otherwise the hotel was very nice and close to the beach and the city.and the city were very beautiful.but it was a very small city and beach so we are not going back.chania and rethymno is better.

Me and my girlfriend have just returned from a weeks all inclusive holiday, we arrived at approximately 10,30 where we were checked in immediately by Angela on reception who was always very helpful.

Our room was on the first floor overlooking the pool, when we arrived we were greeted with a plate of food which we could not work out what it was and didnt look very appitising and was unrefrigerated so we decided to hit the bar, when we arrived in the bar there was only 15 minutes to go so we had a few quick beers and went out for a pizza as we were both starving,

The next day when we woke up we fancied a swim in the pool but decided against it as it was full of lime green slime, our rooms were nice enough and did get cleaned most days however we did have a problem with the hot water, which was never actually hot!

The food was average for the first few days but on the 3rd day the food was just repeated and obviously things that had been left over from previous sittings had been "rehashed" to make something else, the food was very bland for all settings and there was not much variety, especially for a vegetarian lady who we met who mostly had to have tuna sandwiches!!!

The bar of an evening was a funny set up with an awkawrd ramp right next to it and all 8 chairs bolted to the floor, the barmaid Katrina was a lovely girl who was always very helpful and talkative however Manos who occasionaly took over was arrogant and unhelpful, infact on our last day he tried charging us for 2 cokes even though we were all inclusive and said that our all inclusive had finished at 12pm even though we did not get there on the first day until nearl 11 o clock,

The hotel itself was in a good position with quite a lot to do in the surrounding area and i would imagine that in summer months when more staff are available the hotel would be better run, i would like to complement angela on reception and katrina on the bar who were extremelly helpful right through our stay however the other staff seemed to treat us at times as an inconvienience. We would not stay again but if you are only using the hotel as a base for the area then this would be ok as long as you wernt too fussy about the food and drink, The first all inclusive i have ever been on and not been drunk!!

  • Liked — the easy access to all surrounding areas
  • Disliked — some of the staffs attitudes and as the season was closing were made to feel uncomfortable

Have just returned from one weeks All Inclusive stay at Santa Marina Hotel, Agios Nikolaos.

The hotel location is fantastic, a minutes walk from the municipal beach and several bars, and a short walk to the town/lake, but is situated on a very busy road.

The suite we had was fabulous (apart from the broken shower holder, broken hairdryer), we asked for these to be repaired, but this did not happen. The bedrooms were carpeted, and were in need of a good cleaning, and we all had very dirty feet from walking bare footed on the carpeted floor. We never had really hot water (mostly luke warm).

The majority of the staff were friendly, but there was a real lack of staff at the hotel, and everyone had to pull together. The majority of the staff were very obliging.

The hotel bar (all inclusive) finishes at 11.00pm. We were willing to pay for drinks (as advertised after 11.00pm), but we were denied this facility, presumably due to staffing problems. One evening the night porter was extremely rude turning off all the lights to the bar area, when people were still drinking/chatting. There is a ramp in the bar area which leads to the dining room. This was very dangerous, and a guest had a bad fall (when she had not had any alcohol).

The food was all very nice, traditional Greek cuisine, but was always cold. Several residents were constantly complaining about the repetition of the foodstuffs (i.e. pork for lunch/pork for dinner, chicken wings etc etc), however, everybody seemed to have a plate full of food at mealtimes. This was not an issue with our group, the food was always well cooked - but the fact that the food was always cold was rather a problem.

The pool was never cleaned in the whole week that we were there and there were green footprints on the bottom of the pool where the mould had settled. It really was not very nice. We did report this to the owner of the hotel, who assured us that the maintenance man would be instructed to clean the pool.

In all we had a really great holiday, and made the most of the accommodation we had been allocated to. At the end of the day, your accommodation is just a base. You go to these countries to sample the culture and live the experience. I would not say that it was a very bad experience, but things could have been better. We were very lucky to have a holiday in view of the collapse of our tour operator(s).

If more attention was given to guest's comments by the management/owners, and necessary repairs/maintenance undertaken, more staff employed, this could be turned round into a great hotel.

Just back from a week’s all inclusive in the Santa Marina. I would not believe all you hear about this hotel. We had 3 rooms and all were great. Cleaned every day. Hotel was great and the staff were excellent. Arrived 01:00 in the morning and all checked in by 01:10. Food left in the room for us although not to my liking but it was a nice touch.

The beach is a 2 minute walk and with my wife having a badly broken ankle a few months ago, this was great. Very clean and plenty of space. Hotel, not too busy so not difficult getting a drink. Bar does close at 11 O’clock for all inclusive but very cheap if you want a drink after that. How much drink do you really need? If all you want is drink, book a week in your local.

Slight down side, all inclusive food is definitely catered for mainland European’s. I did not like it but they appeared to judging by the amount on their plates. I would not go all inclusive as food and drink was cheap outside. No entertainment at night but we were not looking for this.

The resort was excellent. Plenty of bars etc and no loud drunks spoiling it. No worries about letting the kids go out on their own. I had 15 and 17 year olds with me and they had a great time. Enough excursions to stop any boredom, which was also good. Just go to the port which is a 10 minute walk.

All in all, we had a great week and I would go back but not all inclusive.

Stayed at the Santa Marina for two weeks. Our room was a good size with a beach view. Having a beach view is a double edged sword - the view was great but it overlooks a busy and noisy road. Having said that, Santa Marina has an excellent location - a couple of minutes from a decent beach, marina and bottomless lake. The hotel staff were always helpful and everything was clean. The food was good, although a limited choice for vegies (always lots of salad and melon tho). We stayed on a "all inclusive" basis and certainly received value for money. Whilst we were there the hotel pool wasn't used at all - not surprisingly as the lovely clear med is just across the road. The hotel is reasonably close to the bus station (its straight up the road) and from here there is great access to lots of places on the excellent bus service. The trips advertised by the holiday reps (and around the town) are expensive and its easy to get just about everywhere on the bus.

THIS PLACE WAS NOT VERY CUSTOMER SERVICE FRIENDLY. The air conditioner shuts off at 2:00 a.m. and when it does come back on it lets out a horrible stench. They do give extra towels for when using the pool. You have to pay for internet services.

I booked the santa marina for myself and my boyfriend for a 2 week all inclusive holiday and have to say we had a fantastic time. We arrived at the hotel at 2am and when we got to our room there were plates of cold food in the fridge for us as had missed that nights dinner.
The hotel is in a great location, literally across the road from a gorgeous sandy beach-small but very clean and pleasant. There are a number of shops and restaurants on the doorstep and is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre with numerous bars, shops and places to eat.
The staff at the santa marina couldn't have been nicer to us and as we spent much time at the free bar we got quite friendly with a couple of them.
Our room was clean and pleasant and maid service was daily, the only down side was that the air con didn't work properly!
Meals were not as varied as hotels that we are used to but i am an extremely fussy eater and still managed to stuff myself most nights! There's a lot of meat so if your a meat eater you'll love it, my boyfriend did!
The pool area is very small and i can imagine would be very crouded at busy times of the year but as the beach is so close it hardly matters. There is also a sun terrace on the roof which is a bit tatty and the bar wasn't open when we were there but at busier times i think it would be.

All in all we would def go back to the santa marina, in fact we are returning to crete in september and are considering going there!
