Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Do not expect fireworks but if you want to spend decent holidays and enjoy the beauty of Agios Nikolaos it is a good place to stay. Hotel staff is very kind and always helpful. All-inclusive formula including hotel bar service is fine. Food is tasty but not very versatile. The Santa Marina hotel location is very convenient, the beach is just next to the hotel. All other places including city center are walkable distance away.

Average hotel we got a cheap deal so couldn't complain much! The breakfast was poor but lunch and dinner were okay although there was little variety! We found the all inclusive bar good and George and Simon did there best! They were friendly and quick. Although i think ultimatley they needed more staff. There was no entertainment which I thought was poor but the location was fantastic! Beautiful beach and Marina. I recommend to go to Crissy island and walk around the front and visit the pebble beach the views are beautiful! Helen & Si.

We stayed here for a week in July. We were half board and didn't pay much for the holiday so we weren't expecting much from the hotel. What we got was worse than we expected!! I'll start with the good points:

Fantastic location (practically on the beach and 5 minute walk or less from town centre)
Friendly staff (except for the manager)
Room size was ok

Now for the bad points:

Air conditioning is HORRIFIC!!
Rooms at the front of the hotel are VERY loud
No wifi in the rooms
Had to hold the shower head to have a shower because it didn't slot in the hook
Dinner was mediocre, breakfast was APPALLING!
No hotel entertainment
Only one plug socket in the room
Bath wasn't cleaned
Can't flush toilet roll (which I know is common practice in Greece but not in big hotels!)
Lifts are temperamental
Only one toaster with 2 slots in the restaurant
Saw a cockroach running out the kitchen which the staff didn't seem to care about just pushed it BACK into the kitchen!!
Wifi in the reception is slow and hard to connect to at times
TV only has 2 English channels - BBC World News and CNN (I don't normally care about the channels on the TV but as there is NOTHING to do in the evenings at the hotel, there's not really much else to do but watch TV)

They're only the points I can remember but it was much worse. I wouldn't recommend this hotel but if you are going to stay here, request a room with a garden view where its not so loud. We couldn't open our balcony door as it was so loud.
As I said, I wasn't expecting much of this hotel as we didn't pay much but this is by far the WORST hotel I've ever stayed in! Try to avoid at all costs!
The only reason I haven't given the hotel an overall 1/5 is because of the location!

not even a 2 star, we had to clear the table, most mornings and try and find a knife and fork off another table before we could eat breakfast, then no plates,or machine ran out of coffee ,food etc, it was hard work, but the worse part was the all inclusive bar, one person serving the inside and outside bar, you waited up to 50 minuites or more, every time, and gorgio would ignore the english and blatently served the germans and russians while the english were left till last, when i asked the receptionist if anybody else was going behind bar because people were waiting both sides ,she said no,so i asked for the manager ,he came storming over and shouted what is the problem and what are you complaining about,i told him we had been waiting for 50 minuites and he needed more staff on bar , he then led me to the other bar where there was a large queue of people, and shouted gorgio to come and serve me,this was highly embarrassing,as i had been queuing at other bar and everybody looked at me as if i was trying to push in,when i got my drinks i asked the manager what about everybody else who was waiting, he told me dont speak you have your drinks, then he walked back to reception, where he stood talking to receptionist about me ,when i went past i said to him you are a very rude man, he then flew after me in a very aggressive manner and said what did you say? then my husband appeared and stood in front of me,i felt very threatened, the manager then walked off ,and my husband said because i had gone to the manager, gorgio would not serve us again,{remember this is a ll inclusive} ,all we had done is try to get him help, we went up to our room very shaken,we just wanted to go home,we then had to go out most nights because of the atmosphere around bar, also bar finishes at 10 oclock if your face dosnt fit ,and no vodka or gin you had to pay, we were sold this as a 4 star hotel ,yet we heard the manager say to another couple who where complaining about the hotel this is a good value 3 star hotel, this turned out to be a very expensive and a nightmare of a holiday, thanks to the bully of a manager, and a racist drunken barman.

it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed, bar none. The food is disgusting, same choice each day and what they offered was slop.Cats roaming around the restaurant begging for food,I mean 7 at a time. The pool was tiny hidden in the shade for most of the day and freezing water. The bar for the all inclusive offered brandy, ouzo or raki.Any decent drink had to be paid for separately. The barman had to run two bars alone so you had a wait of 20-30 minutes to even get served.George did his best but he spent more time drinking with the guests than serving other customers. The rooms were cheaply furnished and dated. Our room overlooked someone's apartment across the street so we had the joy of watching an old man pick his feet, also, the balcony ran the length of 3 rooms with no divider, plus, there was only 2 tables and chairs between 3 rooms.
Talking of rooms the bathroom had a tub that was so narrow you had to stand sideways to shower, using the tiny hand held shower with at best,a trickle of water coming out at an angle,so you had to hold it to get close to your body parts.
Room service did not clean our room one day and left only 1 towel the next.We called down for extra but were told to come down and get it ourselves, which leads me to the reception, not friendly, truculent at best.Maria, the barmaid, breakfast server and general dogsbody was very pleasant as was Catrina in the restaurant, the rest did not want to help and this goes all the way to the manager, who ignored my wifes complaints with a shrug and what do you expect from me attitude.
The hotel was supposed to be 4 star,it is 2 at a push.
The one redeeming feature is its proximity to the beach, small area and you had to pay 5 euros for sunbeds, but it got you away from the hotel.
If you are going on an excursion, make sure that you are booked for the day you want,we waited for our bus only to find the receptionist had given us the wrong date.
And,the transfer says 50 minutes,it does not take into consideration that the bus drops off at 8 hotels before that and the actual travel time is 2 hours and 15 minutes, big difference.

lastly,if you are at all hygienic,do not be discouraged by the fact that you have to put your used toilet paper in a bin and cannot flush it.

Please do yourselves a huge favour and stay somewhere else before its too late.

Room Tip: The double beds do not exist,it is 2 twins shoved together, mattresses are like cot ones, very thin,ve...

We stayed here for one week in July. Thankfully it wasn't any longer than that! The entrance is plush and you could be fooled into thinking that the hotel rooms might be plush too. You realise as you exit the lift on your floor and go down the corridor, with dark grey doors and paintwork, that it isn't plush. We had a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel. If you have a room at the front, there is no point to the balcony as it's ridiculously loud. The air conditioning in the rooms and throughout the entire hotel is useless. And as stated, it was too loud to have the door open so it was constantly hot and stuffy in the room. There's a fridge, which is pretty pointless as you have to take the key out every time you leave the room. The water we stored in there was only cold in the mornings. There is ONE PLUG SOCKET ONLY for use in the rooms. We found taking it in turns to charge phones, kindle and netbook to be a pain. You couldn't leave it to charge while you were out, as the electricity went out when you removed the key. There is a lack of hangers in the wardrobe space. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms. You have to go to the lobby area for internet access. You can ask for a cable to use in the room. The towels are changed daily but the bath isn't cleaned and the bathmat was the same one for the whole week. Our shower couldn't be used as a stand up shower as the shower head sprayed water everywhere. There was BBC News and CNN but this was after several searches. The rooms aren't huge but they're not a bad size. The location of the hotel is good. It's right beside the beach/marina and it's about ten minutes walk to the port and the lake where there are some nice restaurants. There's a roof terrace with a few sun loungers on the fourth floor which is nice. The pool is on a mezzanine level. It's shaded which is a good thing. We were half-board. The evening meal wasn't too bad but the breakfasts were poor. There's one two slice toaster for use by all. There's no kettle in the room. The staff are helpful and hard working.

Room Tip: Don't get a room at the front of the hotel.

Just come back 03/07/2013 ,we had a great 2 week there, the food was very good with plenty of choice, the only thing i did not like about the food was the fried meat there was on some times at breakfast, real bacon would be better.
We loved the salads and the Beef,Lamb and Chicken that was cooked in the Greek way.
The bar was a bit dissapointing but the NEW barman seems to be more than able to cope with the job, the choice of spirits was poor ,with only Brandy Raki Ozuo on offer.
All the staff were very helpful, and welcoming,we also had a meal when we arrived at 1.30 am,i think the transfer from the airport should be done by taxi rather than a coach which took over 2hours,for a 45min drive. we did try the pool area once but found the sun beds hard with no covers,so we used the beach most days.

Room Tip: court yard view was best
