We have just returned from a fabulous fortnight at the Minos Palace. We found the staff very friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until departure. Our room and the whole hotel environs including the gardens were clean and well maintained. Sheets and towels were changed regularly and, contrary to other reviews, were good quality. The food was good and the variety acceptable though I would have liked some of the dishes available on the speciality fish night to have been presented on other nights as well. There are a restricted number of sunbeds on the rocks and at the beach but we had no problems in getting a sunbed in the pool area and the hotel staff seemed to be enforcing rules that prevented sunbeds remaining unoccupied for long periods. The pool opening times were not strictly enforced as we saw people swimming as early as 8am and as late as 7pm. The location of the hotel is good with a frequent bus service into Agios and a cheap taxi ride (6 euros each way) but it is an easy and very pleasant 30 minute walk into the town, mostly along a promenade by the sea and I would suggest ending it at Buzz, a juice bar beside the harbour, for a freshly squeezed fruit juice. I would also recommend a visit to Plaka, a small village usually used as a stop off for ferries to Sinalonga but worthy of a short visit in it's own right. Taking the 11am bus from the main road by the hotel gives you enough time to explore the small number of craft shops and have a fish lunch before catching the 13.40 or 15.30 bus back to the hotel. We had an excellent lunch at Taverna Gorgona by the seafront with fresh fish, salad and wine for two for approx 45 euros.
All in all we had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday made better by the hotel experience and we are looking to go back sometime in the future

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing out to the islands and sea rather than into the bay by the hotel entrance.

we had booked this place after reviewing opinions given by other travelers on trip advisors, and some features were not surprising for us (like the tiny beach and limited number of sun beds...) but our biggest disapointment upon arrival was to be given a room with very poor sea view were as the website mentions that all rooms had see view. actually some rooms have a full large sea view and other a poor one (no luck for us). the first impression was not very good with a very standard check in, no welcome drink in the room, worn out bathrobes and closets. faded curtains and bed covers and faded bathroom (ool soap distributor still in place but not refilled). the lobby bank is also worn out
on the last of our 3 days we were offered to change for another room , but this was neither worth it nor timely (too late too bad).
the breakfast is correct (large choice) but lacks refinery and quality
staff is correct but not overwarmfull.
we had the impression that it was a "big place"
but overall the stay was relaxing
special like for the beach restaurant and the cleanliness of all gardens (very well maintained)

Room Tip: ask preciley for "full sea view room)

Although this is by far the best hotel I stayed in Greece, it's not a true 5 star. Let's start with the good things. The hotel is located on a peninsula which means almost all rooms face sea. The view in my room was simply spectacular. The best part of this resort was the landscape, gardens and beach/water. The beach was quite small but they found a way to build platforms on the rocks for more sunbeds. The water is very clear and good for snorkeling (beware of the windy days, I made the mistake of going too close to the rocks with my snorkel and fins on such a day and was almost crushed on them by the waves). The hotel also has a very deep pool filled with sea water (2.75 to 3.9m) but I can't understand why the only keep it open from 10 to 18.00 !?. Cleaning was also good and the staff very friendly and helpful. There are 2 main restaurants, one that serves breakfast and dinner and the other, located above the beach only lunch. Both of them had great views and a good selection of foods. While I can't complain about the variety of food, they could have improved the quality. The weakest I've found were juices and fruit yoghurt. The best was the omelette made by a lady in front of you with the whatever vegetables you wanted in. Overall, I've had better breakfast at 4 star hotels in western europe ! The rooms are pretty large and have a huge bed + another small one. The design and finish of the rooms is mediocre and I hated the furniture doors slamming because they didn't install sound dampers. The curtains were amazingly good at keeping the heat away but very close to the door and if you didn't completly pull them to one side, they would get ripped by the door. The bathroom was by me the weakest point of this hotel. They had enough space but yet decided to install a very narrow bathtub which is a pain to use. The sink was also badly designed and difficult to use (sink too far from the edge of the countertop made washing difficult). The fan was really cheap and noisy also !

This hotel is a real class act. It is beautifully designed - it makes the best of a wonderful location and has lovely grounds (more of this later). This hotel is very well run; things work as they should. Service is generally smooth and delivered with a smile. Everywhere is squeaky clean and nicely maintained. The food is very good - great quality and presentation, with a lot of options available in a buffet format.

The gardens contain plenty of shady spots with stunning views, and it has a tiny 8th C church of St Nicholas tucked in the grounds (you can borrow the key from Reception to have a look at the remaining frescoes).

It is great option for stop and flop holidays. We enjoyed getting out and about while we were there, but we really appreciated returning our oasis of calm at the end of the day. Its location just outside Ag Nik is very convenient - 5 mins in a taxi (€6), or a 40 min stroll.

Clientele while we were there was a mix of German, Russian and a few Brits. We loved it and we'd be very happy to go back.

Room Tip: Suites are quite spacious - with private terraces and little private garden areas, perfect for serious chilling!
