We stayed here in a waterfront bungalow for our honeymoon and it was perfect. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, with walkways winding through well kept gardens and pieces of sculpture, with amazing views over it's private bay. We couldn't fault our bungalow, fresh flowers and fruit every day with wine on arrival. The bed, like everyone else has mentioned did need a topper, and when we enquired about this at reception, when we returned to our room it was already in place. There are plenty of sun loungers and we were lucky that we had a reserved 'room lounger' on our own rock patio with steps into the sea. Although the hotel was busy, it certainly didn't feel like it and we loved the fact that we felt secluded but really we weren't. The food was amazing, so much choice, we ate in the ambrosia/bachus restaurants and also the Bouillabase which was stunning. So much choice everynight and all cooked / served perfectly. The staff also make a wonderful contribution to ensuring your stay is perfect. They were all so friendly, welcoming and really made us feel special. It is a 10minute walk to Ag. Nik and a good base for exploring other sites from. It goes without saying that this was a very special holiday for us and one of which we hold many fond memories, we will also be visiting again, hopefully in the not too distant futre.

The wife and I booked this hotel on the strength of the reviews that we read on here, we stayed from Sunday 26th September until Sunday 3rd October 2010. Firstly the restaurant staff were superb, nothing was too much trouble for them, the food was top notch (we stayed half board). Secondly the gardens and grounds were fantastic and the sea was clean and a pleasure to swim in. Now the downside, our room was a twin bungalow garden view, the room was minute in all honesty, there was only one small window in the bathroom and an entrance door that is louvered. If you need fresh air at night then forget it unless you want to sleep with the front door open either that or make do with the air conditioning unit! The furniture is old and extremely dated and the entire room was in desperate need of a serious redec, if like us you fancy going back to you're room to make a cuppa then take a travel kettle like we did, there is no tea or coffee making facilities in the room either.
A great hotel no doubt about it but the accommodation is in need of some serious updating, it looks and feels 'tired' and that spoilt the holiday for us.

Like me you will have read many reviews on the Minos Beach, and like me you may have high expectations. Well, I wasn't disappointed, and I'm sure you won't be too!
We were told that the hotel was almost full w/c 14th Sept, but it really didn't feel like it. There was none of the usual rush for sunbeds at 6am or overcrowded swimming pools -instead there were plenty of comfortable sunbeds either poolside, beside the private beaches or on paved areas right next to the sea (with ladders into the water).
The food was amazing, again I am fussy, and I have to say that I enjoyed EVERY meal (its not often I say that!), there was a good choice of english, greek and vegetarian options with superb service, all served up in the garden terrace with sea views.
The only "complaint" which you may have already read about, was the rather hard bed mattress. So, we asked for mattress toppers but unfortuntely there were none available for our first night, however bright an early the next morning they arrived and made for a very comfortable nights sleep for the remainder of our holiday.
The hotel generally had more mature guests (my friend and I are 40), so if you want a lively holiday then this isn't the hotel for you. But if you are looking for a relaxing, peaceful break in beautiful surroundings then look no further, I wouldn't hesiate in recommending the Minos Beach.

Just back from 7 days at Minos Beach for first time. In a world of corporate hotels it was a wonderful little oasis in Crete. Agree that it is probably more 4 than 5 star due to small things like very small bathroom and only a shower over bath, outdated TV and no drinks making in room but overlooking these slight inconveniences it really is a gorgeous hotel. We stayed in a standard room in hotel main building but paid extra for sea view and the balcony was lovely with great view. The food was really good, we stayed half board and ate in the Bacchus restaurant and it was definitely far superior to other 5 star hotels we have visited . Also the staff are amazing, very friendly and we gathered that most of them had been there 20 years plus! Maria in pool bar is a lovely lady who was always smiling and happy! Many English people in hotel seemed to have been visiting regularly for years and the staff recognised them immediately. We loved the large pool which was so quiet and relaxing all day, the surrounding gardens are lovely, not highly manicured but you have a feeling of being in rural Greece but with all the luxuries at hand. Not impressed with Ag. Nik the nearest town but has many bars and restaurants. If you want a very relaxing, quiet, low key holiday with fab food then try Minos Beach

We have just returned from our 11th visit to Minos Beach Art Hotel - many guests of all nationalities are repeat visitors. It's like returning to stay with old friends - so welcoming.

The hotel is very quiet and set in beautiful grounds on a small peninsular overlooking the bay of Mirabello and the Sitia Mountains. If you are looking for nightlife this is not the place to go nor is it a place which caters for children but if you are looking for an elegant, sophisticated place to stay set in wonderful well maintained grounds then this is ideal.

The drinks in the hotel are expensive but this is usual for most hotels, just across the road from reception is a small shop run by Kostas - you can buy drinks/water from him much cheaper.

At lunchtime/evenings visit the local bar Kri Kri - go through the grounds and out past the water sports centre, turn left and the bar is the second one you'll come to overlooking Minos Beach - it is run by a lovely family who make you very welcome and provide excellent food, particularly the fresh fish.

The beds are rather hard but ask reception and they will provide mattress toppers which are extremely comfirtable. The hotel staff are a credit to the place, very friendly nd helpful.

We are already looking forward to our 12th visit.

Arrived late in the evening and was shown to a garden bungalow, possibly the smallest room I have ever seen. No windows, no floor space to set down the cases, hard mattress and a substandard airconditioning unit. We were advised by reception that it would not be possible to change room as it was to late in the evening.
After spending a very uncomfortable night in this claustrophobic room we were moved to a junior suite for which we were very grateful.
This room certainly had a lot more space and the beds were a lot more comfortable.
The aircon also seemed more effective although it didn't cover the bathroom or vanity area.
Services you take for granted in a 5 star hotel unfortunately are not provided here-no evening turndown service, no in room tea/coffee machines, robes are provided but no slippers.
A small portable TV and an old cd player are as technologically advanced as this hotel gets, no internet access available in your room either.
Asked for an iron and was told for my safety an iron could not be provided but a pressing service was available. 5 euros to press a pair of trousers and over 8 euros for a dress.
The bathrooms seemed quite dated and not in keeping with the hip minimalist vibe they are aiming for.
On a positive note I thought the food was very good, excellent choice at breakfast and I liked the fact that they displayed the evening dinner menu in the morning giving you the opportunity to change to lunch if you wished.
The pool area was quiet and relaxing, very few children around.
Unfortunately the toilets next to the pool never appeared clean, no soap dispenser and never any hand dries.
The gardens are well maintained and the grounds are extensive enough so the hotel never felt crowded.
The best spot in the hotel was the pure lounge bar by the water edge, it was bliss to sit here in the afternoon with a cocktail,it is a shame it was not open in the evening as it was the most beautiful spot in the hotel.
The bar prices are expensive but probably in keeping with a 5 star hotel, unfortunately I think this hotel falls far short of being a 5 star property.
The best advice I can give you is spend a little more and go to The Blue Palace in Elounda, having spent time here last year I wish I had gone back as it was truly a 5 star deluxe hotel.

I have just come back from a wonderfully relaxing impromptu week away with my mum at this hotel. Having never been to Crete we had no idea what hotel to go for but this hotel was perfect for what we wanted. It was very quiet and obviously very popular with couples who seemed to make up the majority of the clientele. We had a lovely superior seafrontt bungalow which was only a few steps down to the sea and we did not see that it would be worth paying the extra £1000 odd to have one of the waterfront bungalows that was sold as having direct access to the sea.
The food was excellent, much better than we expected. We paid extra to dine twice in the Bouillabaisse restaurant which provided first class service and food (the lobster dinner at E55 was very good value) and we just found that it was a shame it was closed Sunday and Monday night.
It is an easy walk in to the pretty local town which we did twice and if you like water sports then they are right next to the hotel although expensive (E60 for a 15 minute wake boarding lesson).

As lovely as the hotel was I cannot say it merits the 5 stars (rather a lovely 4 star) as it lacks the additional extras and attention that you expect with 5 star. Saying that it is definitely somewhere that we would both like to go back to and the perfect antidote to the stresses and noise of the London.
