We booked a superior waterfront bungalow for which we paid (through Thomson Holidays) a very hefty supplement. Due to health issues, when originally arranging this holiday, we requested a bungalow close to the dining areas/reception. We followed this request with an e-mail directly to the hotel several days before our arrival. We received a response acknowledging our requests, which had also included mattress toppers and tea/coffee making facilities. Upon arrival we were allocated a bungalow which was an extremely long walk from the main buildings. This walk was along the many paved pathways which were inadequately lit after dark. Upon arriving at our bungalow and stepping onto our (miniscule) sunbathing platform, we were disappointed to note that the sun beds allocated to our room/platform were old, ripped, broken and unusable. The unacceptable condition of the two sun beds were made more obvious as the adjoining properties appeared to have brand new ones! We mentioned our dissatisfaction to the Thomson rep who said he would take it up with "Maria". The beds were not replaced, rendering our sun bathing platform virtually useless. We complained to the reception staff directly on a further two occasions to be told the situation would be dealt with by "maintenance". Again to no avail. On the day of our departure, we were still in possession of the useless sunbeds. We would really have expected more from a hotel which purports to be a five star de luxe establishment.

Due to the status of our bungalow, we used the Ambrosia restaurant for dinner. We have to agree with several other reviewers that this restaurant is overly pretentious. Those dreadful, enormous glass plates and vast amounts of cutlery seemed totally pointless, taking into account the tiny portions of food which were served for each course. It was also disconcerting for us to witness many new guests wandering into the Ambrosia Restaurant and, after standing waiting to be seated, were then shepherded by the female "Captain" to the "lesser" adjoining restaurant. Surely it would be far more appropriate in this day and age to incorporate the two restaurants into one, obviating a situation where there are upper class and lower class guests at the hotel.

The hotel has many remarkably good points. It is situated in an outstandingly beautiful position. Our bungalow, though rather dark inside, was kept immaculate by the staff, as was the whole of the hotel. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet promoting restful and perfect sleeping conditions. The choice of food for breakfast was nothing short of excellent.

We have stayed at this hotel before, although several years ago and from past experience were prepared to pay expensive supplements for what we thought would be a luxurious, comfortable, relaxing holiday. We have to conclude this review by saying we were left extremely disappointed and let down by the Minos Beach Art Hotel on this occasion.

My husband and I spent four lovely days in Crete as part of our honeymoon in Greece, and we loved Minos Beach! We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a bungalow, and we enjoyed every minute. The resort was relaxing, beautiful and private but still close enough to Agios Nikolaos that we could walk around the downtown area, explore and enjoy the delicious restaurants. Service was exceptional and the staff was extremely friendly. If we have any minor criticisms of the property, it would be the rock-hard beds, but the pillow-top is a simple fix. Thanks for the amazing memories!

Dear Chelsea,

Thank you so much for choosing Minos Beach for such a special and unique occasion and for sharing your experiences with other travellers. We hope you had a save trip home.

We are very pleased to see, how much you enjoyed your honeymoon and how much you appreciate our small wedding present and our services. Your kind words for the whole team are a big motivation to continue giving only the best to our guests.

Concerning the bed we would like to add, that each person has individual needs and habits concerning his sleep comfort. If somebody feels his matrass too hard, with pleasure we provide several kinds of toppers in order to customize the beds to each individual needs - just a short information at the reception is needed.

For us, it was a big honour to welcome you and we hope to see you again, whenever you return to Crete!

With sunny regards,
Yours sincerely

We went for 10 days to this hotel, booked a sea view room but as it was my birthday they said they have upgraded us to a sea view bunglalow. Wow what a fantastic place! We went half board but they upgraded one of our meals to 'al la carte' at no extra charge with champagne and lovely flowers on our table - made my night! The food was very good, plenty of choices, the staff were very attentive all the time, you do need to ask for a mattress topper for the hard bed this, made all the difference. Would recommend highly and hope to return again in the future.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a bunglalow if you can afford it, it's so worth it.

Spent a wonderful week in beautiful surroundings. The view from our sea front bungalow was amazing, and we enjoyed sitting on our patio overlooking the bay. Everything was perfect, the room, the location, the food, and the friendliness of all the staff. Couldn't ask for more!!

Room Tip: It's well worth upgrading to a seafront bungalow.

We chose to pay extra for a waterfront bungalow.
It was bliss to be able to wake up in the morning and be right o the sea edge. There was no reserving our sunbed as the bungalow had its own sunbeds and umbrella already reserved!
My husband enjoyed standing on our own little patio staring at the fish and crabs.(what a way to unwind)! Although the sea was cold it was very calm being in a bay and it was an easy swim.
The room we were in was decorated to my taste.
The bungalow was a short walk from the restaurant,- a tip if you travel in May the restaurant is semi outside so take a cardigan/jumper. The food was amazing (too amazing the scales informed me when I got home)
All the staff were very friendly yet professional at the same time. A special thank you to Elena.who went the extra mile.
A short walk from AG NICK and a bus stop opposite.
