“Great place for a family and if you have a car”
Reviewed June 17, 2009

My wife and I were here for a week as part of our RCI timeshare. Our suite (#946) was along the road as you entered the complex and was high up so we had a great view from our balcony. The adjacent suites were vacant so we had a very private feeling whiel staying here. Staff were great. The suite was large and a nicely appointed kitchen. We took no meals at the restaurant so I can not comment on the food services. The swimming pool setup was brilliant and we saw many families having a wonderful time. Even though there were many families here, we never felt like we were being run over by kids. The compleax is spread out so there is no feeling of being in a concentrated resort. The relatively remote location makes renting a car (available on site) almost a necessity although there is a taxi stand at the entrance. All in all, a great place.

Great place, lovely and dedicated staff.
Flats are cleaned everyday and the staff will help you for anything you need (they called the doctor for us and picked up medicines for my daughter).
Food at the restaurant is not perfect but more than acceptable for a holiday park. Again, the staff is so lovely that it was a pleasure to eat there everyday.
Perfect if you want to enjoy with your kids.

We booked this hotel because we had recently stayed at the sister hotel of the Candia in Rhodes. There are four of us and we particularly like the suite/apartment style of hotel that both resorts provide. We were not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were very good and justified the price and the star rating. We booked bed and breakfast to give us the flexibility of eating out in the evenings but did dine in the Taverna which was not too expensive and quite good. The beach was small but sandy and pretty and the pool and terrace was more than big enough for the amount of guests. Agios Nikolaos is a pretty village and there are plenty of eateries and bars. We would certainly reccommend it and would stay again.

I went to Candia Park three years ago with my mum and two brothers, we loved so much that we went again last year. Candia park has alot to offer there is all sorts to do from water sports to basketball. It is so beautiful everywhere you went was nicely presented with brightly coloured flowers everywhere on all the buildings. You don't even have to leave the hotle if don't want to as there are bars, resturants, a supermaket, games room and laundry room and much more that it really is just like a little village with its own pool and beach.
Me and my family really enjoyed our holiday here it was sunny every day and the staff are freindly and will help you with any problems I would recommnd this hotel to everyone.

Nice place, really big. Lovely pools, small but pleasent beach. lots of water sports on offer. lots of facilatles, restrants, bars, games room, kids place, tennis, backstball, supermarket etc.
There are lots of steps though and somethings it takes like 5 mins to get places in Candia park, as the appartments are spread out around. Be careful when walking, member of my family fell twice, saw other children fall too. Nice people, food is good, town is close by (taxi 8 euros). Standard rooms are quite small for 4 people though and we noticed that the cleaners only did half their job everyday. the views from candia park are very pretty with the mountains and stuff, also, they're have lovely flower decorations.
Overall nice place to stay for families.

Just returned from the candia park, after a weeks stay, this is our sixth visit to crete over a period of 22 years and elounda and ag nik as we call it , Is our favourite area, previously we had stayed at the minos beach twice and the elounda bay palace, the candia park appealed to us as as we have two boys,15 and 3 and were looking for more of a family resort to keep the boys occupied, and the candia is definitely ideal for this, yes the accommondation is basic, but clean and quite spacious, we opted for the standard garden appartment with small patio area, we booked our flights direct with monarch and found olypic the cheapest for this resort, we left it to the last minute, so on reflection i think i would try and book in advance in the future to get the free child places, and advise to pay for the private taxi transfer as some of the guests were on the coach transfer for 3 hours, (taxi 45 minutes). the supermarket is quite exspensive and limited choice. we also went for the bed and breakfast option as we have found some good restaurants over the years on previous visits to the area, We would recommend pelogos in agios nikolaos and also la strada,A taxi fare was 8 euros to ag nik and 10 euros to elounda. we ate lunch in the taverna and two evening meals in the candia taverna which is part of the complex and found the food was wonderful, the breakfast also was brilliant with a great selection of hot and cold food. thje pool area is ideal in everyway and one great touch is they have 2 full time life guards, The staff overhaul are great and very helpfull exspecially lambrini and alfie at the pool bar, the pool bar food is limited between hot dogs or toasted sandwiches but you can get take away food from the taverna on site and eat it at the pool bar, the swimming pools are ideal for all ages and safe, the beach is private with sun beds and as a great water sports facility , but quite pricey, jet ski for 15 minutes was 50 euros, we opted for the pedlos at 15 euros for 1 hour, the cove is ideal for snorkling and the sea was very clear and crystall blue, The candia is in a great location and the views are stunning. On the negitive side we only found a couple of niggly points, one being the tv channels tend to be in german for the kids and the drinks are a little pricey, but there was so many other good points to outway these, aslo there is a great sports bar with internet access and pool tables for the teenagers unfortunatley we only found this 2 days before we came home, (our fault for not exploring the complex more ) would we go back, yes i think we will, on reflextion a great place for a family holiday.

We arrived, after a week in our favorite hotel in Chania, Crete (Ammos Hotel).
This 'resort' is a 'Club Med' type resort. It's big, there are a lot of people. You have trouble getting sun chairs. The first night we were there, my husbands pork tasted like fish. The next morning we woke up to a sea filled with 'chopped' up garbage (a boat probably emptied its 'garbage tanks'... don't ask!). From then on, it went a bit more smoothly. The food is not that great. It's better at the grill then at the restaurant. We ended up going to the town a lot. There were 2 very good restaurants, the first is Barko (wonderful, top of the line) and a less expensive one is just down the road (sea front) - I don't remember the name, but it had an olive branch as its symbol. Wonderful, inexpensive fair. The best thing about this hotel is that my children got to go scuba diving (at our expense, of course!). I'm glad I went to Agios Nikolaos. It is a beautiful town. Very pictoresque. I would probably rent an apt. or villa near the town and go to the municipal beach.

  • Liked — Very nice set-up, the hotel is beautiful
  • Disliked — too many people, too big, food at restaurant so-so
