“Fabulous Location!”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

This 4 star hotel is right on the front overlooking the gorgeous Aegean Sea. It's a five minute walk into town, so fantastically located. I can't recommend it enough. The staff were brilliant, the food sublime and the whole experience is one I definitely want to repeat next year! The road runs right along the front of the hotel and this can be a bit noisy at times, especially late at night when the lads are cruising up and down. However, if the doors to the balcony are closed the sound is shut out and so a peaceful night can ensue. Downsides and these are little niggles: the carpet in the room is old and rucked up in several places. It needs replacing, in fact the rooms do need a little refurb. Also the TV is an outdated tiny thing with minimal volume. Actually, it's difficult to hear anything at all! I know you probably won't want to watch TV but it's sometimes nice to catch up on the news and a case in point is the German TV stations are a lot louder! Our resort rep gave us a little tip: ask a reception for a kettle and cups. This we did and enjoyed a cuppa each morning! Well, we are English and this is what we do haha!! Milk can be obtained from the shop next door and tea bags and coffee are replenished by the hotel every morning. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Agios Nikolaos is a lovely little town and a place I want to return to again and again. Our all-inclusive package was a definite ten out of ten.

Room Tip: They all have sea views. You can't go wrong! Just remember to keep the door to the balcony close...

I have stayed at this Hotel twice now and I am planning on going back for a third time. The position is really good (across from beach), the staff are really helpful (nothing is too much trouble) and the food is great. Looking forward to going back in August

Room Tip: Make sure you get sea view

Had a glorious week here. The room was nicely decorated and quiet, the view from the balcony was stunning. The food was excellent, staff were great, helpful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them .Chef John (?) the one dressed in black was a real character & always smiling. Lovely pool & sun terrace, spacious bars & dining area with inside and outside tables. Velena the entertaintments lady was a real sweetie as was Eleni who looked after us in the bar.

Few minute walk from the hotel takes you to the harbour & the lake and then into the town. Local bus stops outside the hotel so easy to get to Elounda or Plaka and then get a boat to Spinalonga. Market day on Wednesday was good fun. Would go there again, no question!

Room Tip: book a sea view room & pick up the entertainment leaflet at reception. All sorts of hidden gems...

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in this wonderful hotel and would definitely return to stay again.
Upon arrival we were advised that we had been upgraded to sea view rooms and we were so grateful as the view was truly amazing. We were on the 2nd floor and found no issues with noise.
The food was outstanding. We found the choice very varied and we would normally eat out a few times to have a break from the all inclusive, but found no need to do so as we enjoyed the food so much. Our 2 children also found plenty to eat at every meal time.
The staff were brilliant - especially with our children. The first receptionist we encountered was so kind - even bringing them home made cakes that were sent by her mother.
Then the waitress in the restaurant Despina who was just brilliant with our kids - nothing was too much trouble and my children adored her.
The waitress at the pool bar and Eleni in the evenings were also lovely and made some lovely cocktails for us.
The only problem we found at this hotel were some of the other guests - some of the Saga guests in particular. I do have to say that we were in the minority in our age group at this hotel even though it is clear that Iberostar are trying to attract a more varied clientele. I was quite disgusted to find how incredibly rude some of them were to my family - shaking their heads and walking away if they were seated near us because they obviously felt that children should not be in the hotel. The hotel is not to blame for this and were very accommodating of us and our needs and always made us feel welcome, it is just a shame that some other people felt the need to make us feel awkward and uncomfortable. Perhaps they should consider staying in an adults only hotel in future.
However, I must say that the majority of the other guests were really kind to us, chatting to our children and assured us that we didn't need to feel awkward if they were being a bit noisy.
On our last day my son did suffer a bad burn on his arm from the plate warmer, and my husband had to complain as he had also burnt his hand the night before as had other guests we had spoken to. The manager did apologise and switched it off but later found that one of the other guests repeatedly switched it back on and then turned it up full blast. Again, this is not the fault of the hotel but nevertheless is serious as it was boiling hot and could cause a serious injury. If the guest who felt the need to do this is reading this review, I hope you are proud of yourself.
We hired a car for a day and drove to Elounda and Plaka and got the boat to Spinalonga there for 8 Euros each - very interesting and worth a trip. We also went on the submarine boat which my children loved.
To summarise, we loved this hotel, the location, the views, the food and drink, the staff - everything and would definitely return again. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Have just come back from having a very enjoyable stay at the Hermes. Arrived very late and was put in a sea view room on the 3rd floor. The room was quite large but the decor was quite oppressive so next morning my daughter and I asked to be moved to a room above the pool area. Staff really helpful and we were duly moved into a lovely bright room - perfect!
The location of the hotel was great, facilities excellent. Buffet meals were very good with lots of choice and good quality foods. The evening entertainment was varied and enjoyable. The Greek dancing in particular was excellent.
We didn't go on any organised trips but did go to Spinalonga on the boat from the harbour. We hadn't taken any lunch but had a cheese and ham roll on the boat for 2 euros! Spinalonga is well worth the trip an amazing place.
Great break in a good quality hotel!

I have just returned from a week in the Hermes Hotel with my partner and we both enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Top tip is to make sure you book a room with a sea view as the room we were first allocated was like a store room overlooking a work site, however we immediately went to the lovely receptionist and within 5mins and 140 euros later we had our large room with sea view on the 2nd floor. The rooms are a bit dated and worn looking but the hotel is spotless and maid service is excellent. This was our first time being half board and what an experience the food, presentation and the most friendly of staff who never seem to stop was a wonderful experience. We both would like to say thank you for a wonderful week even though the weather was quite wet for a day or two. Also it is worth going to the Blue Lagoon restaurant where you will find a friendly little man who might just let you taste Raki and great food as well. Also did the taxi transfer as it is only 45min and costs 80 euro however we met a very friendly taxi driver called Chris who was very informative and was there on time and even stopped to show us some more of the local sights on our way back to heraklion not before getting us some local bananas!!! Great hotel great place and wonderful people we will be back

Came here with my friend for Greek easter, booked a twin room!! Because we had requested a high room we were put above the pool with a sea view, also requested, problem there is all the twin beds become super king size made up as singles under a beautiful throw, because the bedside tables were built-in they could not be separated, but there was also a day bed that I used for one night and re-located next morning.
Our second room was above the street, because we were there in May it was not too busy, noise was not an issue.
The pool was clean, unheated with plenty of showers and sunbeds. I found all the staff very friendly and helpful, the chefs were excellent, we both have diet requirements and every evening meal we had there they came out and walked us through all the food and explained how it was cooked, prepared and if we could eat it!! ~We had plenty of choices.
I hired a car a drove to the hotel because I know the island and didn't want a 2 hour transfer for a 45 minute journey, this is a let down not a fault of the hotel but the travel companies.
There is plenty of flow spaces and seating areas in the hotel. The bedroom was spacious, with air conditioning, a fridge, a safe, pool towels all free. They also had tea, coffee, kettle, put in our room as requested at no extra cost. The sea view is fantastic and the sunrise well worth getting up for.
The blankets on the bed looked tired as did the sun bleached curtains and carpet, although everything was very clean we were among the first guests on package holiday from Scotland the room looked tired.
I had a wonderful holiday and loved the hotel, it's local to the town is less than a 5 minute walk along the seafront, which is also very pretty.
Would go again and would recommend Hermes Hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view recommended, high rooms can't have twin beds. Rooms above the street I had no trouble w...
