“Minoan town, amazing setting”
Reviewed August 8, 2014

Well worth a visit is interested in unspoilt cultural history. Gournia is a Bronze Age town that is well preserved with streets, building foundations and basements. Heritage signage gives visitor information for a number of locations but it is worth taking a guide book of some kind with more information to get the most from a visit. Not as well preserved as Akritiri on Santorini but still a atmospheric place that gives a real sense of town life 3.5 thousand years ago.

“Life in the Minoan Past”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

It's great to find an archaeological site with few tourists. You can wander and complete a picture of life in a Minoan settlement.

“Just us and the archaeologists”
Reviewed June 26, 2014

Worth a visit, very interesting site with few tourists. A group of students were excavating the site, very interesting to see what they had just uncovered! Bring water and a hat. Great value at €2 entry. Not much information available, some signs in English but no leaflet, however you do get a feel for the place from walking around.

“Great site, but very hot in summer”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

We had a guided tour of the site, it is relatively well preserved. We also met friendly archeologists excavating the site, and they explained us what they were doing.

If you are visiting in late spring or summer, I advise you bring lot of water with you, and protect your head from the sun. The opening hours for visitors do not permit early morning or late afternoon visits, unfortunately.

“Can't help but being impressed by the civilizations this represented”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

Not over run by tourists, easily accessible!

Hard to believe how they achieved this construction.

What's to dislike about an ancient civilization!
