A family group of 7 stayed for 2 weeks. We had a lovely time once we got to the hotel.

As with previous reviews, please don't expect a short transfer from the airport - our coach waited for an hour and a half before it even left the airport! Location of the hotel ideally needs a car although the bus stop is directly outside the hotel. Tip with the bus service - if you don't purchase advance tickets, generally there is a taxi waiting for a return fare for 6 euros (cheaper than the bus fare for a group). Elena in the shop on site is extremely helpful especially with the purchase of bus tickets.

The room was spacious but there was an extreme lack of plug sockets for phone, camera, kettle and TV! Take an extension lead!!

Drinks are as you would expect and queues were very long in the main bar but George was lovely! My only gripe was being told we could only have 2 drinks when it was busy but there were 5 of us in the family meaning 3 trips to the bar!!

The food was standard for an All Inclusive hotel although very repetitive after 2 weeks. The gourmet restaurant was a nightmare - service was appalling and the wine was not free! Not worth the effort! We couldn't work out what the restaurant manager did as all he did was stand around and tell the kids off!

The animation team were fantastic! Timea in the kids club was tireless and couldn't do enough for the children! We found the whole team were brilliant and always stop for a chat!

The beach is small and rocky but most are in Eastern Crete. However just down the road - 3 bus stops - is Golden Beach and that is like a tropical haven! Just nearby is the pool bar where the kids can swim whilst the adults can drink with a fabulous view to the beach.

Walking towards Agios Nikolaos from the hotel there is a fabulous restaurant on Ammoudara beach with a few kids toys - food fab, staff fab, kids entertained!

We would happily return to this hotel but would definitely hire a car from the airport and drive ourselves as the only bad thing was the transfers!

Room Tip: A sea view room is essential!

Just got back from a great week here. The room was modern and spacious with a fantastic view over the pool and sea, the public areas were lovely and it was spotlessly clean. We had no problems with smells nor funny- coloured water. The staff were superb, particularly those on reception who spoke multiple languages and were very knowledgeable. The hotel was 98% full and there were enough sunbeds, but inevitably there were the usual "reservers". 5 star it was not, but it was a pretty reasonable 4 star. The entertainment was OK, particularly the Greek night, and it never ended too late so it was quiet. Food was fine, if not brilliant, and it was easy to get drinks.Access to the beach via a lift was great, and the pontoon in the sea great fun! A bit isolated but Ag Nik only a 10 min. bus ride away costing 1 euro 60 each way per person. For 2 weeks i'd definitely hire a car.All in all excellent for the money and I would happily recommend it to anyone. The only downside is the transfers, at 2-2 1/2 hours much too long as they pick up and drop off at every tiny village from Heraklion to Sitia right over in the east.

Room Tip: Sea views are lovely

Went to Hotel Blue Marine for half term week. Weather was perfect. Really nice size hotel and great value for money, no major complaints at all. Lovely location with wonderful views, quality spa, nice rooms and everywhere in the hotel was spotlessly clean. The animation team were very friendly and so accommodating with our three boys. They all worked hard and Timea in the kids club was lovely and Robert taught our son how to play darts! Plenty to keep the kids occupied, tennis, ping pong etc.. After reading the reviews we were concerned about the food, however it was absolutely fine. For what you pay, there was always a good choice of tasty dishes available each day. Gin & Tonics in the Panorama bar before dinner was just lovely. Hotel white and red house wine fine as was the on tap lager.
Only a few niggles: paying 3 Euros per day for a safe in the room and 10 Euro deposit for each pool towel when there is 5 of us! Whilst the food was much better than we expected, the main restaurant is quite loud, bright and stark so the hotel could improve the evening ambience by dimming the lights, use of candles, playing some background music and basically making it more inviting (perhaps with some greenery / Trellises). Olive Tree Restaurant made a really nice change as you get waited on & food again was really nice. We ate out in Ag Nic a few nights which was definitely worth it, some very nice restaurants and wonderful setting.
Hire a car, it was much better value for money. Road to and from airport was fine, easy drive.
The hotel really grows on you and it is perfect for a week away in the sun. We all had a great week, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return!

Yes, 5 star in Greece isn't 5 star in England... when are people going to realise that!!! Having said that we had a great time at the Hotel, the staff were so helpful, the food was great and our room was fab. There was a slight smell of sewerage, but that's Greece! The water was a funny colour but really is that so important.. you shouldn't be drinking it anyway! The only problem was i had to get up early in the morning to put towels on the sunbeds as we needed to make sure we had room around the beds for the wheelchair .. but that's life..and i just jumped back into bed after! There were some sunbeds from last year around the childrens pool which we moved to the main pool. We couldnt go to see the entertainment in the ampitheatre as the hill was too steep for the wheelchair..but they did have a Greek evening around the pool and we met some great friends. A cosmopolitan array of nationalities and not too noisy at night. No where to go in the evening unless you went to Agi Nik but we just stayed in the bar and chilled out and had a laugh. The rule about the drinks depended upon who served you.. sometimes you could only take two but the queue wasn't that long and apparently the hotel was at full capacity. This is not a hotel for groups of young people, but great for a relaxing holiday. We did go to the a la Carte restaurant which was lovely.. you need to help yourself to the soup so don't wait to be asked! The trip to Spinalonga was really interesting and we spent a windy day in Agi Nik and bought a few things. Anyone who faults this hotel must be really picky and for the price we paid it was great value! Would definitely go back again.

The scathing review I just read from SIANWW troubled me. We just left the Blue Marine Resort. I arrived with some sort of stomach bug and was quite ill. I had to have a doctor come to the hotel to see me. He prescribed some medication and also suggested that I eat only crackers and bananas.
The hotel was out of bananas. So that same manager who was supposedly rude to that group of 30 people hopped into his own car, went to the market and brought back a bag of bananas to me.
There wasn't a member of their caring staff that didn't inquire on a daily basis as to how I was feeling. They were wonderful.
There were a few things we felt that could have used improvement. But, again, that manager and his staff were most willing to listen.
We saw the animation team try to give each guest (from ages 2 to 82) the very best in entertainment. Everyone had fun.
The maitre d and the kitchen staff of the restaurant worked tirelessly to provide well presented dishes to satisfy the different tastes of the many cultures that stayed in that hotel. If you want to have an all inclusive relaxing time, the Blue Marine Resort is the place to go.

Room Tip: The rooms all have beautiful views but the comfort level leaves something to be desired.

This hotel is Ace!. A virtual palace carved out of the mountainside facing the sea! We had clean, comfortable, spacious rooms facing onto a beautiful bay. We were all inclusive and there was plenty of choice at every sitting. I challenge anyone who could not pick something that they liked! All of the hotel staff were excellent in their manner and service . Second to none .Nothing to fault at all, we would go back there any time.

Room Tip: Sea view room is a must!

Having just returned from my first visit to Crete I would definitely not stay at the Blue Marine again. The hotel is let down by the manager. I was part of a large group of people (30+ people) visiting Agios Nikolaos for a wedding. We all stayed in the blue marine, and found the manager to be rude and un accommodating. He unfortunately lets the hotel down as all the other members of staff we very helpful and friendly, especially the animation team and the guy who works in the main bar during the evenings. As a group we felt uncomfortable enjoying our evenings as the manager made it clear that he didn't like us all siting together in a group as it didn't look good to the other guests! It annoyed us more so as every evening we stayed in the bar after the all inclusive had finished and put a lot of money behind the bar!!

On a good note, the animation team work tirelessly to ensure all guest have a good time, from games during the day to their cabaret acts and discos in the evening! They make an effort to speak to all guests during the day, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves! Such a shame they are let down by their manager!
