“Not excellent but enjoyable”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

We spent the first 2 weeks of May at the Laguna. We had a lovely room on the Island, we never had any trouble reserving the a la carte restaurants, which we definatley prefered to the main restaurant, and were able to get a cold bottle of white wine to have with our meal. We loved the champagne bar and the crepiere, which both had great staff.
The quality of drinks in the day and night bars was not very good and trying the get something
from the secret cupboard was not easy.
The evening entertainment was not good, although on a few nights the live music in the bar was
quite enjoyable. Some of the amination team when we were there were very friendly, as were most of the staff.
We stayed at the Blue Domes in Kos in 2011 and prefered it to the Laguna and doubt if we will
return to the Laguna.
We were there during an unfortuate incident and it perhaps has put us off Crete so we will be
off to Turkey for our next holiday.

Room Tip: Our room on island did not get the sun till late afternoon

Just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel and I have to say that we were disappointed.
We had booked this holiday through a very well known holiday company and paid quite a lot of money for it as the hotel was described as luxuorious and relaxing. However this was not the case. The hotel is quite big but unfortunately the communal areas are not really big enough to cope with the large number of guests. This means that you will struggle to get a sunbed around any of the pools unless you get up very early, you will probably have to queque up to get into the dining room (especially if the outdoor area is closed) and you will struggle to get a seat in any of the evening bars. There were also quite a lot of children running around.
Most of the staff are very pleasant and hardworking but some of the management need to be more 'customer focussed'. There are 5 themed restaurants that you can dine in but these need to be booked 3 days in advance. Also make sure that you book them early in the morning. Having said that, we found the food in the dining pretty good but could have done with being a bit warmer.
There is not much in the area around the hotel so you will probably need to hire a car/bike or use taxis to venture further afield. We would recommend going to one of the Tavernas in Old Hersonnisos on a Monday evening where you can enjoy a typical Greek night in the square with a local band and dancers but be prepared to be invited to join in with the dancing!
During our last couple of days we noticed some 'senior looking' people observing what was going on in all areas of the hotel so hopefully they can sort out some of the issues.
We would have rated it better but felt that the amount that we paid for the holiday represented pretty poor value. Just as long as you don't expect too much luxury you will be fine.

We travelled as a party of 6 and everyone of us loved it. From the moment we arrived ( despite the usual French air traffic control delays at Gatwick) we were very impressed. A late arrival meant we had missed dinner so we were introduced to the creperie - oh boy what a mistake - it was just soooo good and meant we returned again and again. Salami bacon and cheese or nutella and banana were firm favories and as for the ice cream ....wonderful. The rooms were huge and kept really clean. The pool was a great size and the whole complex was well designed to cater for all. Our firm favorite was the adult only champagne bar - all inclusive !!
The speciality restaurants made a welcome change and Georgia was wonderful in fitting us in where possible. Local parasailing and jet skis were great. 7 Euro taxi ride was all it took if you wanted anything more lively in the evenings. ( hotel animation team not brilliant )The hotel looks like a palace when lit up at nighttime. Great location and staff lovely - came home fully relaxed and a lot heavier!! Fully recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid childrens area as nightime animation is held there and it would be noisy if trying to sleep wh...

Stayed with our son and daughter-in-law and our three year old granddaughter for ten days. We were allocated adjoining rooms as requested. Hotel lives up to it's 5* rating and is only a couple of years old. Our rooms were well appointed and comfortable, even opulent, with little extras like toiletries and bath robes. All three generations were well catered for by friendly and efficient staff who worked hard to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing. We all found the restaurant facilities and the quality of the food to be of a very high standard and are surprised to read the negative reviews posted by other guests at this hotel. It may be that 5* in the Med is different to 5* in other parts of the world but we would highly recommend this hotel as good value for the money.

Beautiful hotel with stunning views, room was luxurious and the staff were so friendly and welcoming - especially Antonis, Christina and Sofia in the bars. Champagne bar was lovely as well as the creperie/gelatia. Unfortunately the buffet let the place down as it wasn't quite 5 star and there was a lot of queueing involved. However it is a lovely place and very child friendly.

Room Tip: Sea View was well worth it.

An amazing hotel, where all the staff couldn't do enough for us. Room was bright and clean with a lovely view of the pool and complex. Themed restaurants were fantastic and co-ordinated by a very efficient member of staff who obviously loved her job. main restaurant was good, though would have become a bit of the same if we had to eat there all the time. being shown to a table often led to queues, especially at busy times. Would ahve been great to have a little bowl of nibbles, such as nuts atc... at the bar - would have gome down very nicely with the cold beer after the beach!! Hope staff are appreciated by the management, as they all work very hard. Would definately go back there again!!

Room Tip: All seemed a good location

We arrived at 21:30 so managed to get into the main restaurant just before they closed. It would appear that although Mitsis say on their web site that late meals are available this is not the case. All you get is Crepes and ice cream.

Check in was smooth and we got taken to our room in a golf buggy which saved a bit of a walk. The porter also showed us round the room and how to work the safe – which is free of charge. I have seen some reviews where they mention a deposit for the A/C remote and the TV remote, this was not the case when we stayed there. But the TV only has 2 channels in English CNN & BBC World News.

The rooms are of a decent size with a large bathroom. The bathroom has a bath with a shower over it plus a walk in shower. The only power point in the bathroom is about 12 inches off the ground under the sink. So you have to get down on your hands and knees and crawl under the sink to get to it. Most electric shavers do not have a lead long enough to be able to use them in the bathroom. There are power sockets either side of the bed and couple more round the rooms.

Internet:- the hotel says there is internet access in every room. This may be the case but they do not provide or rent Ethernet cables. So if you want to use the internet in your room take your own. The Wi-Fi signal is only available in the lobby and the bars. It is very poor and keeps dropping out. I don’t think that the system can cope with the number of guests trying to use it.

Pool towels:- There is a €20 deposit per towel. You must return the towel or card, and the receipt to get your money back. If your towel is stolen then you will have to pay again. We met several guests that had their towel taken and the hotel are adamant that they will do nothing about it only charge you again. There is nothing to stop anyone just picking up your towel while you are in the pool or at the bar and then changing it and having a free towel for the rest of their holiday. They cannot get the €20 but they didn’t have to pay it either.

Sun beds:- To get a sun bed with a parasol you have to be up by 07:30 at the latest. I hate hotels where I have to do the “walk of the zombies”, as there are not enough beds. Don’t think you can beat the system and put your towel on the sun bed before going to sleep. The pool staff when they turn up to start cleaning the pool, the first thing they do is take off all the towels and put them in a big pile normally around 06:30.
Main restaurant:- We had all our meals in here and did not try the other themed restaurants. I think we were just gluttons for punishment. But we didn’t want to have to go through the booking procedure and then not like the food. For the themed restaurants you have to book 3 days in advance, or hope there is a cancellation. Plus you have to be at reception early as all the tables had gone by 10 am.

To get into the main restaurant you have to queue up in line and it can be anything up to a 10 minute wait. We tried various times but always had to wait to be seated. Once sat down the staff were very friendly and always got our drinks fairly quickly. Never a problem getting refills either.

That’s where the plus points ends!! Breakfast the fried eggs were never cooked correctly, whites burnt on the edges and still running next to the yolk. Bacon, I don’t think had ever seen a pig. It was reformed processed meat sliced paper thin which then stuck or burnt on the hot plate. Omelettes were cooked to order but if you only waited 5 minutes you thought you had down really well. All other food that was supposed to be hot was served in cold dishes and put on a warming plate that you could put your hand on. ( I tried it!) These were either empty or cold.

Lunch and evening meal were the same. Show cooking grill was fish and 2 meats, the meats varied between liver, burgers, turkey burgers, chicken, pork, more pork. Once we had steak but the pieces were about 1 ½ inches square. You are made to feel like Oliver Twist is you ask for a 3rd scrap of meat!!

I have never been in a hotel where the food is so bad, of poor quality, slow to refill and cold. After the 3rd night we were there when the choice was liver or turkey burgers I asked to see a manager. I walked him down the food server. Showed him the chips the largest one was an inch long. Showed him all the empty dishes, asked him to put his hand on the serving dish, and then showed him the scraps meat the of the size of a book of matches.

He was very apologetic, but it is not his responsibility. Someone a lot higher up is buying in scraps of meat that we wouldn’t even put in pies or feed a dog and putting them on as an evening meal in a 5 star hotel. Profit Profit Profit. If we never go back there are plenty of Russians waiting to take our place.

Over all we had a laugh with some very nice people. If the food was spot on we may not spoken to as many people. The hotel is built in the middle of no where, a 15 minute walk to get to the nearest shop. The train does stop outside the hotel and you can get off it in a couple of places and get back on with the same €10 ticket. However even if I won a free trip to the Mitsis Laguna I wouldn’t go back.

Room Tip: Don't waste your money unless you want to lose weight
