For meat lovers only, who don't care about decoration, cuttlery and the rest...
This place serves the best non-premium (i.e. not wagyu, black-angus, kobe...etc) meat I've ever had!! I often think to my self, how would these guys work on a piece of premium beef, when they reach excellence with common beef and the most popular cuts (t-bone and ribeye)?
Starters, salads etc are all ok, wine is ok (not superb...but ok).

Once more there and no surprises.
The best steak in Athens (for years),so tasty though raw material is Greek.
Same gloomy environment inside(need to fix it guys)though garden is better.
Descent wine and service,boring desserts.
Excellent value for money(30 euros per person and you eat a lot).
Again:the best steak in Athens.

Owners are great people and very kind hosts. The food is addictive. Start with a greek salad and wild greens. Continue with a carpaccio (it's not in the menu, so ask the waiter) to taste the great quality of meat that they serve. And then it's the kidneys!!! Grilled to perfection and caramelized in a way that takes you to heaven. Finish with the lamb chops. Definitely order the fresh chips to accompany your meat dishes. They cook them slowly to perfection, shallow poached in oil in a big cast iron traditional pan. House wine is value for money.

If you are thinking of enjoying some really good meat around Athens this is a place for it. Try to visit in summer and enjoy the nice yard. Ask for lamp chops, kiloto and rib eye. All deli.

We were really skeptical after reading some bad reviews in here. But it was a nice chance to pay a visit under a discount offer which lasted about a week, for numerous restaurants in Athens. Kritikos had a fixed menu with a starter, a salad, a main dish and a sweet, for 20 euros. We had spinach pie and tyrokafteri for starters, both handmade and really delicious! Next was the stamnagathi salad, which was perfectly cooked, all green and fresh. In my opinion the salt was a little too much in this dish. The main dishes were both meat (lamp chops and beef top round fillets) and this is where Kritikos rivals every conventional tavern you may have in mind. Both meats were cooked to perfection (and not to death as in any other tavern), lifting Kritikos to the top meat restaurants level. It is very rare to find such meat taverns in Greece, as everyone here eats their meat more than well done. But Kritikos stands up for everyone's right to eat properly cooked meat in Greece! Regarding the pricelist, a 800-900gr T-bone steak costs 35euros, which is not cheap but not expensive either. They also bottle their own wine, which is also something so rare in Greece. There is not a single tavern (I am not talking about expensive restaurants) that will serve you their house wine in a carafe and even tell you the vintage, except for Kritikos.
I highly recommend a visit but be open minded and trust them on how they cook their meat. For the ones that can't stand overcooked steaks, this is a really nice alternative for the expensive restaurants of the town, and more than that, it is a high class steakhouse for a decent amount of money.

P.S. Don't forget to order French fries, they are really cooked the way French fries should be!!
P.S.2. I don't know if we were lucky, but the service was exemplary in our case. We had 3 extremely polite waiters and never waited for any dish.
