“A Museum Like No Other”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

Sure the Acropolis, the 2500 year old ruins of a city high on a rock, is worth seeing. But it is greatly enhanced by its contemporary companion, the Acropolis Museum. What a fantastic museum! The architecture, the creative interior design and, of course, all the artifacts and historical information presented are truly phenomenal. It opened just four years ago and is a must see for anyone visiting Athens. As you approach the entrance you can view ongoing excavation through the glass floor. We thought 3 hours would be sufficient but we were there for 4 and a half. That included an excellent lunch with a view of the Acropolis. As we left the museum I found myself compelled to thank the guard for the amazing visit to his place of employment. Yes, visit the Acropolis but see and learn so much more at the Acropolis Museum. Definitely get the ticket for both at the slightly reduced price.

“Free admission with your Acropolis ticket”

This is a new museum with wonderful models of what the Parthanon would have looked like when it was built. It really gives you a good understanding of these ancient ruins.

“NewAcropolis Museum”

Absolutely excellent. Don't miss this if you visit Athens. The old neighbourhood excavated and left for visitors to see as you enter is amazing and sets the tone for a superb collection of artefacts. Not expensive to visit, well laid out, so informative and fascinating. Nice café/restaurant particularly outside viewing the Acropolis. One of the best museums I have visited. Give yourself plenty of time and really enjoy it.

“A museum of ancient landfill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

The new Acropolis Museum is a spectacular building with a light and spacious interior. Near the entrance a series of scale models show the evolution of the buildings on the Acropolis and the surrounding city. The museum is filled with crockery, votive objects and statuary, much of it retrieved from a pit where it was discarded and then buried by the Greeks after damage by invaders. The display culminates in a reconstruction of the Parthenon on the top floor. A significant amount of space is pointedly left vacant for artifacts, including 250 feet of decorative frieze, that are in the British Museum in London... This museum is well worth a visit (and the roof terrace is an excellent spot for morning coffee), but to me it emphasised more what has been lost than what treasures remain.
