We had lunch at Daphne's in Plaka today and found the food to be really very good (much better than the other tourist restaurants we have eaten in) with great service and ambience. Frankly, we couldn't fault the place - good food, friendly staff with good service and sensibly priced. What's not to like!?!!!

We visited Daphne's for a dinner after seeing the outside and the menu posted by the door. The food was wonderful. Our salad was one of the freshest greens splashed with a basaltic vinegarette just out of this world. Entrée's included Turkish meatballs on eggplant with a delicate tomato sauce and a lamb stew in a wonderful softly spiced sauce and veg.
Just a wonderful evening. :) !

We were looking for something better than the tourist traps.

We had a table outside, the ambiance was nice and not noisy despite the fact it is not so distant from the street.

The service was attentive and the food was satisfactory but if you drink the wine by the glass avoid absolutely the red one or ask for a tasting before... (We did not ask for the "wine from the house"... but it tasted like it...)

Prices were reasonable.

I dined at Daphne's based on a recommendation. It was also within waking distance to my hotel. The restaurant is in a good location, and the atmosphere is in a very nice garden setting. Service was attentive without being intrusive. A wide variety of menu items to choose from. This was fortunate for me because the menu item I selected, they did not have, and I had to select another. I was not disappointed with my second choice. Food portions are large. You should not walk away hungry. The food was fresh, and prepared, and presented in a nice way. The overall dining experience was calm and peaceful. This restaurant is worth a visit while in Athens.

We went to the cafe next door to Daphne's for dinner and were told the kitchen was closed (at 10 pm!). We were then asked to consider dining at Daphne's instead, and we said yes. (It appears from other customer feedback that this is a ploy to eat at the more expensive restaurant given both restaurants appear to have the same owners.) The courtyard was very nice, and the service was good. The menu is quite pricey for what you get. I had grilled salmon and my partner had the spicy pork specialty dish. They were fine but there was nothing special about these dishes.
