“great food at a perfect top of the world location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

Getting here is half the fun. Up the switchbacks on the road - take a taxi! Then ride the tram to the top of the hill. The view is fabulous and the food and service is even better. The gazpacho was great and the Greek salad is huge - served in a bread bowl to die for with the oil & tomato juice married in the bottom. I had the grouper and it was fab....Don't miss this wonderful view of the Acropolis and Parthenon from across the city.

“Great view, bad and misleading service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

We went here twice - the first time during the day time.

We had a drink - sangria. At 7.5EUR it was a little expensive but we thought worth it for the incredible view, and decided to go back in the evening for dinner later in the holiday. The view really is spectacular.

When we arrived, we asked if we could sit anywhere - the waitress said yes, so long as we were eating - the tables with the best view were reserved for dinner. Fine for us, we had gone with the intention of getting a light dinner.

The menu was pricey, but we ordered some dishes to share. We weren't given a drinks menu - only a wine list. We didn't want wine and asked for a drinks menu - which the waitress said didn't exist! But she assured us, they could make us any cocktail.

We thought we would play it safe and order the sangria again - at least we knew the price (or so we thought!).

The food was average - the mussels were slightly cold but everything was edible. As usual for Athens, it was served with bread - unasked for as my husband is allergic. Most tourist places in Athens charge 0.5 - 1 euro for bread so we don't bother arguing or sending it back - not worth explaining!

The service disappeared once the food had come - to the point we couldn't see a single member of staff. They had all disappeared downstairs to a part of the restaurant with silver service - I guess for better tips! A less honest person could have left and been back at their hotel before the staff had even noticed they hadn't given us the bill.

We finally got the bill - to our surprise the sangria was 9 euros per glass and the bread 6 euros. On principal, I refused to pay the extra amount. The waitress called the manager, but we held our own and in the end only paid for the food we ordered and the regular price for the sangria.

It transpired in the conversation with the manager that there is a completely different menu for the tables nearest the edge (ie the best view) and the tables literally 2 feet away where we had sat previously. The prices charged are much higher, to reflect (his words not mine) the "excellent service I had received".

To reiterate - the view is incredible, but just go for a drink and eat elsewhere. Or, reserve a table downstairs where you may actually be able to see a member of staff...and beware hidden charges!

It is the breathtaking view I ever had by night in the world, you may see the whole Athens and the Acropolis. The service crew provided a top of the world experience! The food was great.

“Great View and food fab”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013 via mobile

Breathtaking view! The food and wine were both excellent. Definitely the best meal we had in Athens - not sure that some of the other reviewers actually ate in the restaurant rather than the grill/bar. Service was good until we tried to pay and leave - it took 40 mins and we still hadn't had the bill after multiple requests so we left money and walked out. Apparently all their tills and computer systems went down, but they didn't tell us that. Had they done so we would have grabbed a menu and added it up for them.

“Our best meal in Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

Lunch was excellent with modern take on traditional Greek dishes. Service was attentive and it was a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon. If you are walking be prepared for the walk up to the funicular, you deserve your meal afterwards! For a window seat you should book ahead. The views even on a cloudy day were spectacular across to Aegina.
