we went to this restaurant this Summer and paid a lot of money. The food was ok, the wine was nice, the view was fine. We sat at a table near some fish boats, and the first thing we found was some plastic bottles in the sea and other garbage...... another thing is the waitresses. hey were all polite but one of them spoke to us in Greek and another on English which I found really stupid. I wouldnt visit the restaurant again cause it is sooo expensive without any particular reason.

“Amazing location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

This restaurant is worth paying the price just to enjoy the amazing location and views of the sunset! This is mainly a polynesian restaurant with a basic sushi offering. We went for the sushi as we did not want a heavy meal and it is indeed basic and not worth the high prices. I would definitely go again, but this time stick to the polynesian menu.

“Nice at sunset”

The atmosphere (which depend on the weather) is as important as the food (which is good but unremarkable).

“Great location, disappointing culinary experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2011

My husband and I visited Kohylia in August, with the expectation we'd be dining at a truly superior polynesian restaurant. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the variety and quality of the dishes we tasted - to the point that we thought it pointless to order a dessert in the end...

To start with, I must stress that Kohylia restaurant is situated in a truly wonderful hotel, in gorgeous surroundings, by the sea - therefore the view is exquisite, esp. at night, when the beach around the restaurant is nicely accentuated with soft lighting, making it ideal for a romantic dinner. The tableware is also of the highest standards (Hermes plates, for example).

On the Saturday night we were there, we encountered the typical mix of romantic couples and more casually dressed hotel guests, including some toddlers and infants (the latter were a bit of a mood-breaker, but OK, we understand that you can't forbid hotel guests from dining there, even if a slightly more rigid dress code might be advisable).

The menu seemed uninspiring, and at least to us it looked like a universal mix of fusion cuisine suggestions, without any true polynesian flavour. The names of the dishes plainly described the content of the food, e.g. "chicken with XYZ", "shrimp with XYZ", and so on. Small card, and no mystery!

The food itself was hard to categorize - as my husband put it, it would have been quite good if we had ordered take away at home... As it were, my shrimp with lime sauce was an indifferent mixture of shrimp, vegetables and fruit, all covered in a sweet (sugary) sauce which didn't leave much room for the lime taste to emerge, and left me filling quite full and heavy. My husband's dish (sweet and sour chicken) was equally indifferent.

The service was also rather indifferent - our waiter created a hurried feeling around us ("let's get it over with") rather than the 5* experience we had anticipated, and generally refrained from smiling.

In the end, we were politely asked by the restaurant manager what we thought, and we did give him an overview of the weaknesses we found, at which point he thanked us politely and said our comments would be taken into account.

At a truly magical location such as this, a bold and inspired chef could really make a difference! As it happens, at present this restaurant cannot stand the competition from other luxury asian restaurants... Pity!

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2009

Ambience in great and the DJ plays amazing music but the food is very average and not worth the price. Portions are small. The service must be improved somehow, one of the waiters had an unacceptable attitude. We constantly had to ask for our glasses to be filled and I was attacked by a cat while eating on my Hermes plate. Not what I expected.
