Review of Ariston Hotel
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 13, 2015
Ariston (in greek means "the best") hotel lays neraby central Larisis station in Athens, where you can get acroos the city by the new athinian red line (metro) that is just a few meters away. Tis makes this location very confortable and suitable to go everywhere in Athens (seaside included...). The hotel itself is small, but very well mantained and furnished with taste and love for aesthetics. Rooms despite the overall hotel dimensions are big and clean with a very accurate and timely service. You have all the conforts included in such hotels category (3 stars) with a good tv set, fridge, hairdryer, autonomous air conditioned (very important). Breakfast is absolutely good and tasty with fresh fruit, salted and swett things and a good coffee (you can have an espresso if you want...), but as a peculiar plus you can be helped by an incredibly kind and professional staff in every need or request you might have. Everyone fo them speaks a perfect english and is just eager to help you discover the magic of this ancient city. So I definitely suggest a stay in this hotel 'cause finally the bill is more than acceptable! Think I'll book it again for my next time in Athens!
Date of stay: May 2015
Room Tip: if possible choose a backside room, roads are noisy in Athens even if Ariston has thick windows...

We booked here for 2 nights after reading many good reviews and seeing nice room pictures. Overall I would say I was a little underwhelmed with my stay. The hotel is 2 minutes (eyeshot distance) form the Larissa Station metro stop, which was perfectly close. The building, though, looked pretty run down from the outside. The lobby was decent, but nothing very special. The receptionists throughout our stay, though, were so incredibly nice and accommodating to us (definitely the best part of the hotel). She was very protective for us and noted we should be especially careful of pickpockets in Athens. She also advised us against walking from the hotel to downtown Athens as it would be through a bad neighborhood, so that we should take the metro (total bummer for us, since we were counting on walking!). The lobby was not air conditioned so it was pretty hot and they alerted us when we checked in that the wifi was down everywhere but the lobby (probably not their fault so I can't hold that against them), which was unfortunate for us internet planners. There was an elevator, which was nice for our 3rd floor stay. The floor and room smelled a bit of cigarette smoke even though the room was non-smoking. The room was decently nice (and the bathroom especially was nicely renovated!), but the bed was pretty hard, sheets a little dated, and TV was pretty small. We heard quite a bit of street noise even with the balcony door closed and smelled smoke whenever smokers would walk by. It took until a windy second night for us to notice that the door's hinge was actually broken so there wasn't a good seal prevent noise/smoke from coming in :(
We tried the 5e breakfast one time and it was decent, but you could probably get a cheaper breakfast by waiting to get to a bakery downtown.
Pro's:
-Awesome staff
-Nice bathrooms
-Fairly renovated hotel overall
-only 15 minute metro trip to any major site in the city
-cheap
Cons:
-Not much nearby and have to take the metro to anywhere
-Our door was broken so we had some smoke smell all the time
-Not the best breakfast I've had (should probably just be included in the price)

Room tip: Ask for a room not facing the main road and not above the entrance (to avoid smoke). Also probably higher is better?

I stayed here 2 nights. Its a good price and near the train station which was necessary as I had to catch an early train. The road outside can be noisy but it wasnt summer and I kept the window shut. I dont know what it would be like in high summer but there is air con in the room. The only issue as cigarette smoke from one of the adjacent rooms. However I thought it was a pleasant hotel and the staff were super helpful. Most days I walked into town which took about 20 minutes but the metro is only 100 metres away. I enjoyed my stay.

We took this hotel for the sole reason of it's proximity to Larissa train station. We had an early train to catch so needed to be close and this hotel is just 50 or so meters from the station.

On the was to the hotel our cash driver told us it was not a good area to be in especially after dark and he advised that we not go out. We took his advice.

In fairness to the hotel they have done a pretty decent job of renovating and modernizing the hotel. For one night we could stand the small bedroom and very tiny bathroom. The major drawback though is the traffics noise at night, almost all night long, sleep was elusive. It was pure misery. We would not stay here again.

We stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon trip. The hotel is situated close to the Metro "larissa station", only 100 metre away.
The reception was so-so. No greeting. Just handed us the room key and that was all the service was.
The room is compact but small bathroom. The room seems to be quite old.
Try not to choose the room close to the street coz of noises from cars and motorcycles at night.
We just had a so-so stay here, nothing special except the location.

We stayed here two nights after a bit of a scheduling snafu on our part; we had previously stayed down the block at the Oscar Hotel. This place was fine, but not the best experience or value.

The biggest draw-back was the lack of Wi-Fi, which seemed temporary but seriously made it hard to plan our day trips. No connection in the room is one thing, but the connection in the lobby was very poor and, at times, nonexistent. The rooms were nice and very clean, but instead of being given the double bed that we had booked weeks in advance, we were given two twins. The panoramic balcony, though, sure was nice! Breakfast was fine, but very typical and sparse, and the coffee was lukewarm.

The location of this hotel is definitely something that makes it worth your money: it is one block from the Larissa metro station which means you have easy access to all the trains that will take you wherever you want to go. We also rented a car our final day in Athens so we could go on a bit of a road trip, and they offered us free overnight parking right in front of the main entrance.

Overall this was a perfectly good hotel, but we will likely not choose to stay here again when we head back to Athens in a few days.
