The staff was so rude. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2008 at the beginning of a wonderful and fun Greek vacation. It's a nice, little, family-run place in the middle of the Plaka, right next to the Acropolis. Lovely rooftop deck where you can bring your own food or bottle of wine -- and relax and enjoy the view. I found the owners / front desk staff to be very nice, friendly and helpful. However, don't expect them to be tour guides or offer serious recommendations. You have to figure out that stuff on your own. I also don't recommend hanging out in the hotel very much -- only on the rooftop deck.
My only complaint is that I found the hotel to be extremely loud. The street noise is pretty loud until early hours of the morning, as people coming back from bars & restaurants tend to speak at a higher volume. Also, the hallways are not carpeted. it seemed that for some reason, the hotel cleaning person and other guests had no problem slamming doors or shouting in the hallways any time of the day or night. One night some (older) guests checked in about 3 am & were chatting away noisily in the hallway. They apparently needed a cot brought into their room. The front desk person could not have made more noise as he rolled the extra bed with squeaky wheels down the hallway.
So...if you bring your ear plugs, you should be fine! Otherwise, our room had a cute balcony, a decent bathroom and a tiny TV. This is a budget place, remember? Yes, bath towels are thin, but no different than any other budget place in Europe. Do not order breakfast here, instead just enjoy a coffee at a nearby cafe (there are many).

We stayed in the Hotel Phaedra in the Plaka (very near Hadrian's Arch). It was EXTREMELY clean, VERY friendly, convenient, and reasonable for the area. We stayed in the most expensive room (80 euros) because we wanted a double bed, balcony (view of the Acropolis---faces the lookout point with the Greek flag flying), and private bathroom. There are less expensive rooms as well. There is a computer in the lobby to access the internet. We cannot say enough about this charming little hotel. When we return the Athens someday, we would stay there again without hesitation. The hotel is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, our plane was delayed over 7 hours upon departure...we decided to return to the plaka from the airport to enjoy more time in Athens. We asked the hotel if we could leave our belongings to walk around (after we had checked out and left for the day)...they said of course. They also let us use the bathrooms at this same time. Highly recommend this place!

Hotel Phaedra is a great Hotel, also with a great price! My husband and I went there, the room was beautiful, the view from the balcony was great and the hotel was very clean with a friendly staff. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others! Not only was the hotel great, but the location is perfect- right in the middle of the Plaka area which is the shopping, market district. There are many shops and restaurants right outside the door.
