“best value in Plaka”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

Let me start with saying that this is an extremely basic accommodation, it will suit a traveler that is looking for a place to sleep and to keep their belongings safe while in Athens. This is not for someone that is used to staying even in a 3 star establishments. Nefeli does have potential to be at least a 3 star place but then price would skyrocket, why? because every other aspect of this place is top notch (people, included breakfast and location location).
I stayed here with my 8 year old son and my 57 year old mom, we were looking for inexpensive accommodations close to everything. Check-in was a breeze, the owner very friendly and the first thing he did when he saw us (two women traveling with a child), he took a map of Athens and drew a circle on it with a red marker to let us know how far should we venture out of Plaka area to avoid any unpleasant experiences. After we were given keys to our room and the wifi password, we went to unpack. Room- very basic, two beds with small lcd tv on a bare wall, no rug or carpet, linoleum floor, very small bathroom with tiny shower, 1 chair and rundown decor, also I think all rooms may be smoking because when we first entered the room I could smell cigarette smoke, I run out to buy a scented candle, opened the window and the problem was solved. Beds were surprisingly comfortable, breakfast more than sufficient and the people running the place extremely friendly and helpful. Now, the location is second to none, right next to the Adrianou steet, 15 min walk to Acropolis, Monastriaki, Flea Market, Tower Of the Winds, you got the picture...My husband was very apprehensive about us staying in Athens but I would not hesitate to return, and would recommend this place to anybody traveling on a limited budget, truly a hidden gem, hope to be back one day.

I had a great stay at Nefeli hotel and would definitely stay there again! Excellent location in the tourist area of Plaka, close to the metro, Acropolis and buses to Piraeus and the airport. Basic hotel, but clean and excellent staff. I was a bit apprehensive going to Athens with the the countries issues right now, but the people working the desk told us which areas weren't the best, and I felt very safe the whole time I was there. The staff were very helpful with bus schedules and gave us suggestions for restaurants. Breakfast was very basic including a boiled egg, roll, pound cake, crackers, cheese, honey, jam, butter and tea, but it filled us up. We did a 5 day cruise around the islands and the hotel let us leave our bags there for the day upon our return, even though we weren't staying over-night again. Great value at €50/night for 2 people!

I stayed at the hotel 2 nights in June. the staff was very nice, the location is very good but the hotel is very old and in need of renovation, the AC had a bad smell from it so we didn't use it and was drained into the bathtub which wasn't very clean.
if your backpacking solo or with friends and are on a budget then it's ok otherwise I would chose different.

Really liked this hotel. The staff were great! They were very helpful and friendly. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was included and was, again, basic but yummy :) The location couldn't be better. It's right in the Plaka district so is a stones throw away from restaurants etc. it is also a 10-15 walk to the Parthanon.
All in all it's a great hotel in a great location and I will be booking it again for my visit next year!

Spent one night in this hotel and we were really happy with this choice. The location is great - in the middle of Plaka, Athen's old town, close to all pedestrian streets. We picked it especially for it being close to Acropolis hill so we wouldn't have to walk much in the morning - you would want to do that if you wish to avoid the crowds. Room price was really good, our room was clean with flatscreen TV and air condition. The bathroom was okay, not new, but kept clean. A great plus is very nice and helpful staff - our receptionist was very keen on showing us on map everything we needed to know. The breakfast is not of much variety, but it keeps you fed for the morning. Overall a really positive experience. Simple and small hotel, but clean, friendly and comfortable.

The location of Hotel Nefeli is perfect for short walks to the Acropolis and great restaurant options. The owner is friendly and makes you feel welcome. He also has great recommendations on places to eat great food no matter what your tastes.
The rooms are basic but the furnishings are in good shape and the rooms are spotlessly clean. The neighbourhood is quiet and felt very safe to walk at night.
I will be returning to Athens soon and I will definitely stay at Hotel Nefeli.

we were there in the beginning of August. it is a very small hotel with BB and it's clean. we paid 20 euro per person per night and the hotel has a great location; very near to Acropolis, Monastraki, and Plaka! transportation to the airport or Pireaus port is also very easy from the hotel.
