“Just the basics; clean; low cost; bring ear plugs and a pillow!”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

The location is excellent, but be advised - this is a very basic accommodation. If you don't mind hostels, this will be great. If you are accustomed to luxury accommodation, you won't be happy here.

After spending the beginning of our Greece trip at the Plaka Hotel a few blocks away, my daughter and I spent a few weeks visiting various islands and then returned to Athens. Since we were playing it by ear at this point, and hadn't decided where we were going to be on this particular day, we didn't book very far in advance. We were fortunate to find the Nefeli for the one night before we had to catch our flight home. The location and low price certainly attracted us - we felt very much at home in this neighbor hood and were very happy to find this place. It is a step above a hostel; very "dorm-like". The furnishings are spartan, with only one flat pillow one the bed. When the room doors are closed, no matter how quietly you try, it makes a loud slamming noise --makes it difficult to sleep when people come in at all hours slamming the doors.

The place is neat and clean, which goes a long way in my book! I don't remember if there was free internet...our laptop went kaput on the beginning of our trip so we used internet cafes everywhere. There is an internet cafe a few blocks away, near Hadrian's Library.

There is a basic breakfast that is free, and was much appreciated at the end of our trip when funds were low!. The staff is very nice and helpful. It is a VERY short walk to Adrianou street and all of the shops, tavernas, and then of course, the Acropolis. If you are the young, or not-so-young (like me) backpacker type, this will suit you fine. You won't be spending much time there anyway because you'll be out having drinks, dinner, gelato and enjoying the Plaka.

My husband and I have stayed repeatedly in this small, simple and pleasant hotel. The management is very accomodating and helpful. There is easy access to Syntagma for early am departures to the airport. Breakfast is included in the very reasonable room rate. This is a solid choice for someone needing a central base to explore Athens from or merely a stopover between flights and ferries. Anyone who is behind the desk is always eager to help a needy tourist find their way. We look forward to our next stay on our way to Lesvos in the fall.

Stayed in Hotel Nefeli for 2 nights with husband and kid. It is located about 10 mins walking distance from Syntagma Square(which is the main area connecting all the sites). People at the reception were kind and helpful. The rooms were clean and air conditioned. Its a value for money budget hotel , not the posh kind. The locality is safe in the nights and there are many restaurants and super markets nearby. The breakfast is something they need to improve.

I can't imagine why you would want to stay in any other place during your stay in Athens. As a visitor in Athens you want to see all the historical sights, enjoy a great traditional meal, and have perfect peace and quiet. The management is extremely friendly and the room service is transparent and perfect. Finally the prices are incredibly reasonable no matter what service you expect.

Over forty years of staying at various places in Greater Athens, the Nefeli is, by far, the best buy.

Couldn't be better located (a ten to fifteen minute walk to most of the important sites, from the Acropolis to Sindagma to Monastiraki to the New Acropolis Museum); the staff is helpful,. the heating and air conditioning work well and on and on.

This is definitely a budget hotel. Nearly a hostel. Great location and price, but you do get what you pay for.
We spent 1 night in athens and only a few hours in the actually hotel. The rooms are dated and run down. Our room smelled of smoke and the bathroom although looked like it was just cleaned , wasn't somewhere I would shower without my slippers.
The staff was very nice, we missed breakfast on check in and check out so I can't comment on that.
When trying to find the hotel, do not used the map on their website, it's not really adequate.... google map it.

The location was ideal and made it easy to see all the sights in a day.

I only recommend this hotel for a short stay but if your planning spend some time in athens then maybe look elswhere

Excellent location near tourist sites. Breakfast is included in room rate: juice, tea, coffee, lots of bread, pound cake, jam and a hard boiled egg per person. They sold bottled water in the lobby.

As our flight into Athens was canceled, we called Nefeli to change our check in date and was grateful when they obliged.

Unfortunately, we were given possibly the worst room in Nefeli. If I remember correctly, it was room 102. There were 3 single beds in there with no TV. One bed had no sheets and looked very dirty and old. The floor had a layer of dust like it hadn't been cleaned for months...My spouse couldn't sleep at night and had difficulty breathing, possibly from dust allergy.

Staff weren't very friendly and reluctant to share information. We wanted to watch the world cup in the hotel lobby but the staff told us that the broadcasting crew was on strike so they didn't broadcast world cup that day, and he continued watching news in the lobby. So we went out and found a cafe only a few blocks away with world cup on their local network!

Definitely our least favorite stay in Greece, thank goodness it was only for 1 night.
