“Really nice hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2014

Me and my wife stayed for 5 nights and we enjoyed our stay at Centrotel. While the area seems a little shady at first, we did not encounter any danger at all during our stay. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and our room was clean and comfortable. They also upgraded us free of charge to a room with a balcony as soon as we arrived. The hotel looks to be fairly new and modern as well. The area is quiet and very close to the Victoria Metro station (5 mins on foot). While breakfast was not included in the room rate, it was still a bargain for the price we paid. Plus there are several restaurants in the area to eat breakfast from (we visited the nearby Everest every morning which has good coffee and breakfast at a very affordable price).

I spent May 2nd -May 4th, just two night in Athens. The hotel is very lovely for the price that I paid. It's about a 35 minute taxi ride from the airport to the hotel and cost 37 euros. You can also take the metro from the airport to the hotel, but it would take about an hour (because you have to switch trains) but it would have been MUCH cheaper. My cousin and I didn't feel like spending and hour on the metro after flying for the last 10 hours so we just took a taxi. Many reviews said that the street that the hotel is on, is very unsafe and shady looking and run down, but in my opinion, all of Athens looks run down. I never at any point felt unsafe walking in the area where our hotel was and this is coming from two women in our late twenties.

We got a room that face the back of the building, it was very nice and clean. I highly suggest having breakfast at the hotel, it cost 7 euros, and was very simple but filling. There's a Metro station (Victoria Station) just literally a 5 minute walk from the hotel, and if you buy a 24 hour Metro pass it only cost 4 euros, definitely worth it! Spend the day sightseeing and just take the metro everywhere instead of a taxi. You can directly get off at the Acropoli Station to get to all the sights. Just a piece of advice, if you plan on seeing the Parthenon and all the sights, get there FIRST thing in the morning (8am is when they open), because it's a lot of walking uphill, so go when its cooler and also avoid the mass of people that show up at noon. You'll get the best pictures, when there aren't so many people crowding you.. The tourism ministry charges 12 euros, to visit something like 7 sights, so it's pretty worth it finically. After the sights, head over to Plaka and just walk around the flea markets, good experience.

Also where the metro station near the hotel is located is called Victoria Square, they have awesome cafe's to grab dinner or just lounge around and drink. If you're not in the mood, there's a Gyro place, literally right next to the hotel to the right, best ever for like 5 euros. and there a supermarket right next to the hotel too, in case you need to buy anything.

Overall the place we chose was really good. In the end you're not really spending you're entire day in the hotel, so you need something thats clean and cheap. Since there's a metro station a 5 minute walk away, it's convenient to get around.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter what room you get. You're here to sightsee, not be holed up in your hotel...

Modern, very clean, good sized rooms, helpful staff, and great value. It is in a very rough area of the city. Only about 300 m from Victoria metro station - Victoria Square is fine but the street where the hotel is very rough and noisy on a night. With this one little problem, echoed by others, would certainly recommend the place. Worth a 5* anywhere else.

We stayed at this hotel for a stop over before the islands. The hotel is clean and staff are very helpful. The issue we had was that it was in a location where we didn't feel comfortable in regards to safety. Even our cab driver advised us not to leave the hotel.

We chose this hotel for a five day family city break based upon previous reviews. The reservation was made in September 2013 for a family room. Despite more than six months passing, the hotel met and exceeded our expectations. Large room, two balconies, incredibly clean, very fresh bathroom, bathrobes, excellent lighting. We were three, but the room would easily accommodate four and still not feel crowded. The staff were cheerful and helpful. Our son had his eleventh birthday during our stay and the staff helped us find a cake and candles. The location is very good in that you have easy access to the Metro, a five minute walk. The neighbourhood is.. a neighbourhood. Some buildings run down, others not. We never felt worried walking about with our eleven year old son. The hotel recommended some local places to eat our evening meals that turned out to be great. Not tourist traps, required a bit of sign language and pointing but super food and value for money. In general this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in for city breaks offering great value for money. If we return to Athens we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were in room 603. Very good room for families.

This hotel is excellent for the price. The service, particularly the cleaning, was excellent. It is a 30 minute walk to the sights, but the trams are close and accessible. They were very helpful in ensuring that we had a timely taxi for a very early flight.
