“Nice hotel - dodge area!”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

This hotel is beautiful, and has all the amenities you need (except for a pool)
But the area it is located in puts me off staying here again.
I do admit it is near Victoria station and the open roof tourist bus depot but the area is full of broken houses, heroin addicts and shady looking people.
For the price, I would stay for a night but not for a holiday maybe just as a quick stop over

Room Tip: one overlooking the road

Got a bit scared after reading reviews about the location. After staying here for 3 nights, I understand what they mean but personally, I didn't find it scary or dangerous, even at night.

Apart from the worn neighbourhood it's in, this hotel is in an excellent location. So close to Larissa and Victoria metro station. So close to a supermarket and all the shops on Victoria square.

The staff, namely George were excellent. Every request was fulfilled immediately. He gave wonderful directions to all the tourist spots, recommended places for food, helped us book a segway tour. All done with a smile.

Large clean rooms for great prices. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. If I ever returned to Athens, I will come back to centrotel.

We booked this hotel for a couple of nights while in Athens as part of a 2 week trip to Greece. I disagree with other reviewers who say the hotel's location was dodgy. It seemed fine to me. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely. After the first night we noticed the air conditioning was not working. We complained and it was repaired.
There are some lovely good value (e40 for a family of 4!) restaurants in Victoria Square close by.

The hotel overall is really nice. Big rooms and big restrooms in comparison to other European cities. Bed is too hard for my comfort my back hurt every morning. But most importantly when considering this hotel is its location. Going to where all the tourist hot spots is not hard, taxi is €4-5 at most and close metro station, the bad is when you get there at night. Scary area we
Didn't feel safe, every taxi driver sayd it wasn't a good place to be at. Even though it was a great deal I would be willing to pay more for a better location.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Athens. In terms of value, it's a great one. It is close to two metro stations that take you to all the sites within minutes and ultimately when you go to Athens, it's to see the sites for a day or two and then split for the islands. DO NOT spend 30Euro or 50Euro (nightly rate) from the airport to go to the hotel. There is a train at the airport and you can transfer to the metro that will take you directly to the hotel. Victoria station or Larissa station are the stops closest to the hotel. We opted to do this at 10:30 - 11:00 PM and it took us about an hour.

Some of the reviewers mentioned that this hotel was in a "shady" area or "unsafe" area and I can understand WHY they wrote this (I believe because it is in a residential area which is dark at night and not in the hub of the tourist scene, but BELIEVE me, this area is not unsafe or shady at all. Dark, yes, but shady absolutely NOT. Simply put, it is a neighborhood that is a bit worn down and dark at night. We went out to dinner at midnight and walked around without a problem AT ALL so please do not let this deter you (unless you really prefer to be in a very populated busy area of course).

When you walk out of the hotel and make a right and walk about 2 blocks, you will hit the "plateia" or "square". There are a bunch of restaurants and places to have a drink all around the square. In this square is where the Victoria metro station is as well.

Other pros:
• A very big bathtub (which you will rarely see in Greece)
• The staff is EXTREMELY helpful and nice
• The rooms have balconies

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is located in the most unlikely area of Athens.
Chances are you will probably want the taxi driver to keep going once you see where its located.
BUT...

its one of the most modern, clean and spacious hotels that you will get in this price range. In fact I guarantee you will be so surprized you wont be able to stop thinking about it for days. We just keep asking ourselves " What the hell just happened.. it's like stepping into a classy modern environment once you walk in through that front door.

Many Hotels post these great pictures on the internet that don't really reflect (or over state) the current state or quality of their hotels. Trust the pictures you see. The hotel is exactly the way that it is portrayed.

Some more good points :

- there's a supermarket, bakery and coffee spot just down the street
- very safe in the day, better be cautious at night
- before you bring your car to the underground parking (for the first time)- - walk down there first and make sure you are comfortable negotiating the tight space. We had a Ford Mondeo and it was a nightmare to get out .
- there is a similar sounding hotel near Plaka - so be clear when ordering taxis and telling friends where you are staying.

For our first couple of days in Athens we stayed closer to the center of the tourist sights, near Plaka/Syntagma. We had two other nights in Athens over the course of our trip, and we're very glad we chose Centrotel for these. While it's outside of the tourist beat, it's in a nice residential neighborhood, and it's very close to the metro. In two metro stops you're at Monastiraki, it's also a straight shot to the port (Piraeus), and it takes about an hour to get to the airport. Other reviews mentioned that they felt the neighborhood was unsafe, but we didn't feel that way at all. We walked around both during the day and at night and felt totally safe. It was actually nice to get a better sense of what it's like to actually live in Athens. If you want to be in the middle of the tourist zone, this is not the place for you. But if you want a nice hotel at good prices that's still quite conveniently located, then Centrotel is a great choice. The staff was very helpful, the rooms and bathrooms were quite large (best shower I've experienced in Europe), and the balconies were lovely. Finally, it was a great deal price-wise.
