“Great local clean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Great service with a Ranger smile. I came to Greece with no idea what to do or where to go. The Hostel was very goo at sending me directions. They where very informative a lot of directions of where to go and things to do. Place is clean and there is a open day room with tv. Wifi so that you can look things up and not garbage wifi that bogs down when everyone is on the net but proper wifi fast. Henry is knowledgeable and curtius and always available for questions.

Apart from the stark fact that 12 (or more) people have to use one bathroom with a ridiculous 50cent charge for hot water and a filthy toilet, as well as the plethora of other minor problems, my lasting impression (if you can call it that) is that the staff in Pagration hostel are the most amateur, unprofessional and rude I have encountered. Having had my bag and all my valuables stolen, I asked a member of staff for advice and the possibility of having my and my friend's further two night stay reimbursed as we had no money or cards. He, instead of helping us in anyway, managed to change our emergency situation into how it was inconvenient for him to hear this and that, to quote, "it's actually harder for me to hear this from tourists". He then halfheartedly intercommed the owner saying that "two kids just had their stuff stolen and demand a refund" before raising his eyebrows in a patronising and utterly uncaring way before reinforcing how much of a bother it was for him, in the face of me and my friend having had wallet, cameras, diary, bag and lots of money stolen. The most unpleasant place I've stayed in. Avoid it like the plague.

A very nice hostel, overall. As long as you are prepared for the classic backpacker experience- it is true, the kitchen is small, disorganized, dirty, and the organization of things overall is cluttered. But its a fun hostel- full of friendly people, beautiful rooms, very clean bathrooms, lots of advice about what to see in the city, where to eat, where to buy groceries. The hostel is full of handmade signs, quotes, plants, and just has a funky, cool vibe. Beds were comfortable. It was hot but the rooms have fans. Location is hard to find at first because there is only a tiny sign! But location is good, you can walk in twenty minutes to many interesting things. And value is AMAZING. thanks to the staff who were also very nice.

The youth hostel is good value for money and only seconds from a supermarket, a street of bars, resturants and a Lidl !! The main problem is the showers which ,although allow you enough time to wash, do take a bit of getting used to. The hostel is situated a bit outside the main tourist area of Athens but there is a cheap regular bus service directly outside the door, we walked everywhere but it was only a 20 minute walk (through some beautiful gardens) to the Acropolis. We also met some great people staying there and had a really awesome time.
Would recommend for thoose travelling on a budget or studying.

This hostel is one of the cheapest in Athens for a reason, it is unreasonably uncomfortable. The rooms are barren, the kitchen is filthy and lacking in dishes, counter space and cooking space. The hot showers cost .50 for 7 mins (2 of which are wasted getting the water heated), and there is NO hot water in the entire facility at any time of day. My partner and I stayed here in the off season but had to leave after 2 nights because the rooms, common area were freezing (you could see your breath in the air) and the owner told us the heating was broken - but we knew he was just being cheap and didn't want to turn it on. It was miserable and frustrating. I would not recommend anybody give their business to this hostel after that experience but avoid in the off season at all costs!

If you are on a gap year travelling or backpacking then this is a perfect place, near just about everything you could want ( shops, bank, transport links). The person in charge was really helpful and friendly which helps is a strange city! this is youth hostek in every sense of the word though, so if you dont mind sharing a room thn i would highly recommend here.

The hostel is only €14 a night, one of the cheaper ones in Athens. I actually stayed in this hostel first with friends and then returned as a solo traveller, as a lot of the cheaper hostels in Athens seem to be in fairly dodgy locations, especially for a solo female traveller. But this one is really close to a trolleybus service, which runs all night, and is in a nice residential location, with plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops just around the corner!
The room was okay, nothing special. There are balconys with each room, and a roof garden and a kitchen. Clean sheets and blankets are included. There is also a washing machine and dryer, although it is fairly expensive. There is free wifi, and sofas on the landing on each floor to chill out on, plus an inside area where you can sit in the evenings which is pretty cool.
All the staff were very helpful, and you can leave your luggage there if you need to, plus there is a security camera on the front door.
There is one big downfall with this hostel though; the showers. you have to pay 50centimes for 7 minutes of hot water. and the showers themselves are clean, but old, in need of a renovation, and there is no space to get changed.
despite the showers, i recommend this hostel, purely for its location, value for money and good staff.
