“One of my favorite hotels... ever!”

STAY AT THIS HOTEL! It has everything going for it: location, style, comfort, value... and especially service. Located in the becoming-trendy neighborhood of Psiri, the hotel is just a half-block off Ermou, a major thoroughfare with 2 subway stops and short walks to the Plaka, Acropolis and other top historic/tourist sites. O&B is short for Ochre & Brown, the soothing color pallet of the hotel's sleek and modern design. We stayed here for a couple days following a Mediterranean cruise, and it was the perfect extension of our pampered holiday. The welcoming desk staff could not have been warmer or more gracious, offering us coffee and even complimentary breakfast as we waited the few minutes while our upgraded room was readied. (We arrived earlier than expected at 10 a.m. and surely did not expect to get into our room until the afternoon.) We were then offered a thorough map tour of the area geared to our interests, as another staffer quietly moved our bags to the room.

Our superior double was in the recently-opened expansion, facing the relatively quiet front street of Leokoriou. I'm not sure I've experienced a better designed room. The queen-size bed was extremely comfortable with luxurious duvet and high-quality linens. A flat-screen TV adorned one wall with plenty of local and international channels and a DVD player. Large double-pane windows that opened 2 ways were welcome during cooler spring weather. The bathroom was spectacular with a very large open shower with tiled sitting bench and "rain" shower-head as well as a hand-held option. The one-piece white-stone sink and designer "floating" toilet were efficient and sleek. Fluffy towels and high-end amenities were standard. I especially appreciated the ample storage, which is often scant in such "design hotels."

A sitting chair beyond the desk chair would have been nice, but a glance into a larger suite showed those comforts to be included there along with a walk-out balcony. Front facing rooms look onto rather dilapidated buildings, but that's the character of this changing urban neighborhood. For the reasonable nightly rate, my expectations were exceeded.

The included breakfast buffet was ample with many bread, danish, cereal, yogurt, meat and cheese choices, along with an eggs-to-order option. We also had dinner in the small restaurant one evening, and it was fantastic, combining traditional Greek and modern classics with a reasonable wine list. (The amazing Greek salad could have been a meal itself.) As always, the service was excellent and extremely friendly. We also had drinks in the back-room bar (what had been the breakfast room before the recent expansion). The accommodating desk staff were also generous in suggesting other restaurant options in the vicinity.

Most impressive was the check-out courtesy we received. We needed to catch a 6:30 a.m. flight on the morning of a general strike due to the current economic crisis. Staff arranged for a 4 a.m. taxi and then surprised us with "breakfast bags" of sandwiches, fruit and orange juice for the journey. You don't expect such consideration in major city hotels these days. I travel a lot, and this was the best hotel experience I've had in years.

This hotel rocks just on the basis of its superb service and fantastic location - just 2 mins walk from the Agora. We booked a deluxe room and whilst its not cheap (but i soon found out that most hotels in Athens aren't) I was a little underwhelmed by the size of the bedroom. However, the enormous bathroom with fantastic shower soon made up for that and the staff were so friendly and helpful (we asked about the closing time of the parthanon and when the receptionist didn't know as they had just switched to summer closing times she phoned up and asked) its hard to really find fault.

The included breakfast is also superb and there are a load of hot dishes which aren't really advertised (eg omlettes, poached eggs etc) but if you ask are happily served and well worth it.

In addition to being so close to the Agora site, the neighbourhood the hotel is in whilst looking a little seedy round the edges, is fantastic at night and great for resturants and bars (and ice-cream bar!) which are (mostly) full of Athenians.

We stayed at O&B for four nights this April. We ended up staying four more as our flight home was cancelled. O&B could not have been more helpful. They lent us a laptop, helped us organise logistics and generally kept us well supplied with tea and sympathy. Al the staff deserve a huge thank you, and we cannot recommend them highly enough for their service alone. It was exemplary.

But there's more: before we got stranded by unpronounable volcanoes, we spent a very pleasant four nights in Athens on our scheduled trip. O&B was a great base. It has a fantastic location. Yes, it is up a side street in what at first glance looks a scuffy part of Athens. But Psyrii is lively, safe and much better located for the major tourist sites than the other high end/ boutique hotels in Kolonaki. Its also much better value and a lot more fun. The hotel itself manages to pull off being both chic and comfortable. The rooms (and we stayed in a couple) have a fantastically comfy bed, a great shower and in some cases, a great view. There's free wifi, a whole range of goodies that you can request in your room (many are complimenary or available at minimal cost) and a fantastic breakfast is included in the price. Its excellent value for money, particularly if you stay for more than a couple of nights. Highly recommended (from a couple who are pretty difficult to please). Go visit!

We stayed at O&B Hotel for 2 days and had a great experience. From the moment we made the booking, the hotel was very helpful in providing information about airport transfers and answering questions. We actually had to cut our stay short at the last minute due to the Icelandic volcano (our flight was cancelled) and the hotel staff was very gracious and understanding and we were not charged a cancellation fee. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the staff booked us into the Thissio room, which was unavailable when we made the booking. I had asked the staff to let us know if the Thissio room became available, but didn't really expect to get it (in fact, I had forgotten about it by the time we got there). A good example of the staff's attentiveness! They were also friendly and helpful. The rooms were on the small side, but nicely furnished and comfortable. We stayed in the Junior Acropolis Suite on the second day and the room was larger and very nice. The view of the Acropolis was off to the side of the terrace (a very large terrace). Breakfast was fantastic! There was a great spread of breads, pies, yogurt, cheeses, meats, sandwiches etc., and we could order hot options (eggs, omelette, hash browns, bacon, etc.). Everything was delicious, including the fresh squeezed OJ. The hotel's location was extremely convenient--within walking distance to most neighborhoods and sights. All in all, a very nice hotel and definitely recommended!

I've read elsewhere on Trip Advisor that location is everything when choosing your hotel in Athens. This one is minutes from Thissio metro station - although we hardly used transport as many of the sights and plenty of bars and restaurants are close by. What surprised us though was the state of the street that the hotel was on, narrow and dirty, the pavement was full of holes and very uneven. We had to walk right up to the building so convinced were we that we were in the wrong street.
Once inside though, the hotel is very nice and the staff young and enthusiatic.
The hotel has recently opened another 10 or 11 rooms having taken over the building next door. We had one of these on the first floor facing the road. The double glazing was impressive although there was more street noise on the Friday night. The bed was large and comfortable and we liked the walk in shower and the Molton Brown toiletries. We did have a full length mirror next to electricity sockets and a large wardrobe. We had free wifi access and the tv had a number of english speaking news channels. The air con was broken on the day that we arrived although fixed quite quickly - we were only told it was broken though after I phoned reception to ask how it worked. If you like cake for breakfast this is your sort of place! The eggs and bacon seemed to take an awful long time to arrive - don't know how well they will cope when the restaurant is busier.
Finally - and this is absolutely nothing to do with the O&B - I was distressed by the german shepherd dog that was tied to a shop frontage opposite the hotel almost constantly. He was probably the source of much of the barking mentioned by the previous reviewer. I'm a huge animal lover and the sight of this poor dog has unfortunately tainted the way that I feel about this holiday. Again I must stress that the hotel is not responsible for this. On a lighter note, the stray dogs in Athens look incredibly well fed and happy, snoozing in the sun. The people that care for them should be congratulated.

The O&B is in a funky part of town and near to the metro. it's down a narrow side ride road.

The hotel is modern and clean and the staff are absolutely wonderful and can't do enough to help you - which is just as well as rather a lot goes wrong!

My room was large, the bed was very comfortable - the pillows were not. The air conditioning in the room was temperamental and broke down twice during my stay. In April it was bearable to not have a/c in the summer it would not be.

My CD/DVD player didn't work - the staff replaced it with another one which also didn't work. My plasma TV also had reception problems.

There is no full lenght mirror in the room - the only mirror is in the bathroom where the lighting is terrible - obviously kept dim to create the right 'mood' which is all very well but hopeless for applying make up etc! There are no power points anywhere near the mirror - so you can't plug hair styling equipment in near a mirror.

the people who live in the flats opposite have lots of dogs and they barked on and off all night. The hotel has also been fitted out with wooden flooring - which looks great. Unfortnately you can hear every footstep of other guests as they come and go (it's a small hotel.)

On the positive side - the hotel looks great, the food - both room service and restaurant - is delicious and freshly made. The buffet breakfast is delicious and extensive and the shower is also very good.

The staff are kind, friendly and helpful and try their very best - but for the prices the hotel charges they need to make sure things work
