“Nice!”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

We stayed here for 5 days in January and we really enjoyed it. The hotel location is very good, 5 minutes walking to Larrisa metro station and to Larrisa railway station. The area is pretty quiet and safe. You can get to Monastiraki very easily, by metro , in 10 or 15 minutes, depending on the time the metro comes. The building looks nice and very nice decorated inside. The rooms are clean and small, but the bed and the pillows were very comfortable. The heating could be turned on/off at any time. There is a TV and a fridge. The bathroom is very small, but they provide the towels and soap. You can also have breakfast here, but it is the same every day. Still, we enjoyed it, because it was on the rooftop and it had a nice view :). There is a Carrefour nearby, but it gets closed early in the evening and it is closed on Sunday. Last but not least, the staff is really friendly and made us feel welcomed.
I strongly recommend the hotel and for sure we will get back.

Don't expect luxury, but it looks very nice and it has been decorated in a welcoming Greek style.
Location: very good,

I stayed here at the end of May 2013 for a week. Marvellous stay. I was a solo traveller, working in the city. Usually I like to stay right in the thick of things, preferring always to be in walking distance of the city centre. Hotel Diethnes is not within walking distance (you could probably do it in 45 mins) but the metro is right outside (it is also Athen's main rail station). The metro in Athens is phenomenally easy and clean, the young make way for the old, and generally a pleasant place to be.

To the hotel. Rooms are nothing special but are clean, cool, and some have balconies which you can ask for on check-in. The building itself is very old. It has a classic if a bit ramshakle feel to it, which I liked instantly (though it is definitely not trying to be 'shabby chic' - it is just old). The rooftop bar is a big bonus, esp if you are a smoker, and stays open late for drinks. I wouldn't say its a 'service' hotel, but if you don't mind being independent its fine.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. I would return for the warmth and friendship they showed me. Home from home for a week.

Room Tip: ask for a balcony on check in.

Good:
+The front desk was very helpful in answering all our questions regarding ferry schedules and how to purchase tickets early.
+Nice big non scratchy towels.
+Near the metro.
+Wifi (user name/pw given for each device).
+Very clean

Bad:
-Didn't get to experience the breakfast because we had to leave at 5:30am to catch a ferry.
-AC was weak.
-The power that's activated by the room key was broken and held together by a thin piece that wouldn't stay in place.
-The handyman never came to fix the broken power activator. We had to sacrifice a bandaid to keep the power/AC in the room.
-Drainage. The soap bubbles from my shower came up from the middle of the drain and the sink was backed up. Probably could use some Drain-o to unclog whatever it was in the pipes.

We spent one night before we had to catch a ferry to Mykonos. It was so hot in Athens when we arrived, we were super sticky and a cold shower was in order.

Hotel per price was very good. The staff was very kind, and they want to help us everytime. Room was good, and everything was good for me. But hotel surroundings was not good. The market was so far from hotel, and was very different atmosphere from in the middle of city. Except surrounding, all was good.

I stayed here 8 nights in August. As a solo woman traveler I felt completely cared for, safe and comfortable. The place is quirky with a selection of nic-nacs lining the stairs and hallways. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. I was greeted everyday with a smile by everyone including the cleaning ladies. The 2 ladies on reception are extremely nice and went out of their way to chat with me every time I passed by, which is lovely when you're on your own. Their English is very good.
It's definitely worthwhile taking the breakfast option. The buffet is laid out well with a generous selection of cheese, meat, egg, bread, olives, yoghurt, fruit, cereal, sweet croissants, several different juices to choose from, tea & coffee. Everything was fresh.
My room was cleaned satisfactorily everyday with fresh towels, toilet paper & soap ... everything a traveler needs.
I found the location good. A Carrefour supermarket is a couple of minutes walk from the front door as is Larissa Metro station. The street is quiet so a good night sleep is assured.
Only negative is there is not much around the hotel in the way of eateries or cafes.

Room Tip: Street facing rooms are sunny and quiet
