I loved this hotel for the pure design of it all. I stayed here for three nights and loved my room so much! It is a nice change from your average stuffy hotel. The breakfast here was really good and we had dinner at the restaurant one night, which was quite nice, although my meat was a little tough I must say. The only downside to this hotel was the area, quite a rough part of town. Staff were friendly though and I would stay here again, hoping for the Smurf room!

Loved the upscale ambiance of this hotel, located in what seemed to be the heart of the city. The location was very convenient. We walked up to Acropolis and all the historical points from the hotel and also were able to catch the metro to go to the sea side.

The hotel rooms have different themes which were fun.

The breakfast buffet had plenty of options for a continental breakfast and it also included some Greek foods too.

Overall a very friendly, fun environment conveniently located.

Room Tip: Pick one with a theme!

Fabulous hotel. considering the rough area that its in. The metro station is very close by to this hotel, the rooms are nice air conditioned and maintained, with tv and radio within! The decor is a little childish and dated but it was something I could forgive since the rooms and beds were very nice and comfy.
The mini coopers sitting in the reception which double up as desks were amazing to see!
And the spread at breakfast was very nice and filling! I couldn't get enough and good quality. The trays were always kept filled and the juices kept flowing!!
A great hotel and worth the money I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Athens.
Internet is also available in the foyer

Room Tip: Check out the Minis!!

We spent one night in Athens and my whole Greek trip was made because of the excellent service of the reception staff at The Classical Baby Grand. I had left my camera in the transfer bus and the staff went totally out of their way to assist me in having it returned to me!!! Cannot express my thanks enough. We loved the bar and rooms. Whatcha lovely hotel.

We stayed at the Baby Grand twice while transiting to and fro Cyprus in October 2011. For posteriority: this was a season of general strikes in Greece, protesting the government's austerity measures. Travel disruptions were frequent, and garbage piled in the streets.

Forget about the "Grand", this hotel is a baby. In our four year old daughter's parlance, that means small. The only "grand" thing about this hotel is the staff's friendliness and helpfulness (if you can ignore some of the cultural/ linguistic hurdles).

Entrance at street level leads you into the hotel restaurant, where all meals can be had. reception is one floor up and introduces the design theme, as the desk is made up from an old/ original Mini car. This floor also hosts the lounge.

The rooms are small (we are used to Asian sized buildings),as are the corridors. All rooms are individually decorated, as are some of the corridors. On first arrival, we were given a deluxe room as requested. This was beautifully decorated by murals depicting trees, giving a very soothing atmosphere to our stay. Bathroom was below expectations, with shower in the bathtub and and a shower curtain. Soaps were made in China and left the skin very dry.

Breakfast in the restaurant was "American" and on the "okay" side- cereals, yoghurt, fruits preserved and fresh, breads, cheeses, pastry, warm serves (eggs, bacon, sausage). Coffee was filter coffee and not freshly prepared for each guest but served from a thermos.

At lunchtime and dinner, basic fare is served. We had dinner once. My wife ordered pasta with salmon, which was not very appetizing. My Greek salad was nice but about 50% more expensive than the fare served 10 minutes walk away on Ermou or Monastiraki streets. As hotel guests, we were treated to a free bottle of house wine.

Of note, Frommer's 2010 guide to Greece states that the hotel hosts the "insanely popular "Meat Me" restaurant with its excellent and reasonably priced meat dishes". This is no longer true, there is only the hotel restaurant which is average at best.

The hotel provided free wireless, a most welcome service. There is on PC available at the lobby bar, but this is maddeningly slow.

On our second stay, we received a very warm welcome, staff remembered us by name. We got an upgrade to a business suite, which consisted of a small living room and a separate living room, the two sections separated by the bathroom and a small corridor. It seems this business suite could still be further enlarged as it is linked to the adjoining room.

Murals here were similarly beautiful and soothing, prompting thoughts of redecorating our home. Bathroom was slightly more spacious and better lit, but still had a shower curtain.

A few words on the area: right next door is the city hall and Kotsia square with a stop of the hop on tourist buses. Omonia metro station is a leisurely 5 minutes stroll away. There is a small supermarket across the street towards Omonia, and the big fishmarket down the road the other way. Walking to Ermou street (restaurants) takes about 5- 10 minutes.

We walked about at all times of day and night and felt safe. However, we were advised that the streets behind the hotel are unsafe as quite some drug dealing is going on there.

In summary, we had a very enjoyable stay, were very happy with the staff but we were not "wowed".

My wife and I booked two nights at the baby grand at the last minute and called the hotel for assistance as we did not know how to get to the hotel as there was a taxi strike and they organised for a car to pick us up for a minimal cost. The service at check-in was great and we were offered a choice of rooms (obviously we picked the themed one). The rooms were great and large and it was nice to have a big bathroom after travelling around europe. We had such a nice stay that we booked in for another night on our return to Athens a week later. Metro was a short walk away however there was the usual drug users in the back streets (ignore them and they will ignore you). Overall a good hotel in a good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a themed room.

The BabyGrand is awesome. The cool, hip vibe is never pretentious or annoying. The staff is friendly & helpful and the rooms are comfortable, spacious (by European standards) and feature ice-cold air conditioning. :)

Lots of reviews on this hotel talk about the "sketchy" area around the hotel. Only if you've never been to a big city (like NYC or LA) would you think that. Yes, it's urban. But common sense of being in a big city is all you need. During the day, it's an easy 15-minute walk to the edge of the Plaka. Train stops are nearby and the hop-on/hop-off tour busses stop practically across the street at the city hall square.

The buffet breakfast the hotel offers looked great, but seemed pricey at 22 euro per person. A great option I'd recommend is Cafe Duetto, just down the street with nice cafe seating on the city square. :-)
