The perfect place in Athens

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 26, 2010
This was our second visit to Athens, both connected with a cruise. On our first trip, we stayed in a large hotel recommended by the cruise line; this time, we chose our own through TripAdvisor and we are delighted with our choice.

The AVA Hotel/Apartments was perfect in every way - location, size and quality of room and competitive rate. Our reception at the front desk was friendly and competent, and getting settled in our executive apartment was proficient. The staff was very helpful to us in locating areas in the Plaka, plus some great suggestions for restaurants.

I'm so glad we included the buffet breakfast - it was well-prepared and ample in choices, and the attendant was very gracious.

We will most definitely recommend the AVA to our friends, and hope to return ourselves in the near future.

The hotel is in a great location in the Plaka, but is very quiet. I never heard anything from inside or outside the hotel. We stayed in an executive apartment because there were no regular apartments available. Very nice accommodations with great views of the Acropolis and Hadrian's Arch. The hotel staff were also very friendly and accommodating. Overall a great experience.

We spent 4 days here in an executive suite and were delighted with everything. The Ava is a small luxury hotel on the edge of the Plaka and has extremely helpful and friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us.

We picked AVA hotel primarily for its excellent location. The hotel is located in Plaka - a nice and safe area so you enjoy walking around with peace of mind (I was told that Athens is not safe). Because of its central location, we could walk to all the attractions on foot. The room was clean, modern, beautiful and spacious with a normal double bed, sofa (can be converted to a sofa bed), kitchen (well-sized with basic kitchenware) - perfect for 3 guests occupancy. Our bathroom was small with no bathtub (i.e. only shower) but newly refurbished and spotless clean. Free wifi internet was stable and high speed. Staff was outstanding - polite, informative and always happy to help. Somehow we got a surprise champagne on the last night of our stay! How nice and thoughtful they were! One drawback is that the hotel has no fitness room or pool. I am not a gym or pool user but it would be nice if I could have somewhere to take shower in after a long hot sightseeing day after checkout (my request for late checkout was rejected). Overall, very pleasant stay. I'll stay at AVA again.

Remark: Not all taxi go to the airport. To avoid hassle, book your airport transfer from the hotel, which is reasonable-priced.

My husband and I have just returned from a holiday which commenced with a 3 night stay at the AVA Hotel, Athens. I chose it because of the recommendations on this site and it certainly lived up to all the positive comments previously experienced. The staff were all wonderful from the moment we arrived, very welcoming and ready to please. We had a lovely suite which was so comfortable as previously described by others. The balcony was large and the view spectacular. The memory of sitting on the balcony, watching the sun set and lights accentuate the Acropolis and Temple of Zeus, while we sipped the champagne received on arrival, will remain with me forever. The bed and pillows were a dream - very important when you are spending so much time exploring on foot each day. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum (which is a must see) and close to everything you want to see in Athens in a few days. Breakfast was included and very enjoyable, with a good choice of food. I could not fault the AVA Hotel and would return there in a heartbeat given the opportunity.

We stayed for only 2 nights in September and were thrilled with our room. It had a comfortable lounge area, kitchenette, great bathroom, large bedroom and a small balcony. The hotel was also quite convenient to the Acropolis and the Plaka area. We particularly appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the front desk staff. They were all just so helpful. As a tip, do go and enjoy a drink, especially the ouzo and brandy, at a bar called O Brettos in Kidathineon Street not far from Adrianou Street.
