I didn’t have high expectations about Athens city center in terms of lodging and food …. but I was wrong ! The Ava hotel is the perfect place to tour the Plaka area, the new Acropolis Museum (terrific), the Acropolis itself, the Agora (awesome, Socrates walked and teached there…) ; the other interesting museums are somewhat further away (like the Benaki, which I didn’t like too much). The receptionists were extremely helpful and welcoming, we had an executive suite and a standard suite, for 2 adults and 3 children. The additional cost for the executive suite is really worth it.

Wonderful hotel to stay in Athens. VERY friendly staff. They suggested some great restaurants within walking distance. In fact, everything is in walking distance. We would definitely stay here again. Rooms were very spacious and nice. You can or cannot get your room with the breakfast but we chose to wonder around to some of the little places close by.

From the opening of the door when we arrived to finding us the best restaurants in Athens nothing was beyond the staff and facilities of this hotel.
The location was perfect and in walking distance to everything you wanted to see and do.
The staff were so accommodating and helpful we just loved it and are coming back....very soon....

Room Tip: Get the executive suite well worth the extra dollars....

This hotel is located in the heart of the plaka- right next to Hadrians Arch and walkable to the Acropolis and numerous restaurants. We also walked to Syntagma sq quite easily ( we are a fairly active couple in our high 40's) We did not get breakfast at the hotel, rather just walk out and there are a bunch of restaurants.
Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the inner courtyard. It was reasonably spacious, quiet and clean with a small kitchenette area. Room was a little dark perhaps due to being on 2 nd floor.
Overall would recommend the hotel due to proximity to sites and metro. Staff was reasonably ok but we are pretty tech savvy and did not need to ask me much.

Room Tip: Try to get an inner courtyard room on a higher floor.

We visited the web-site and selected this hotel based partially on the photos of its proximity to the Acropolis and Hadrians arch/Temple of Zeus. When we arrived we upgraded to the 3rd floor which has a balcony and it was worth the nominal increase in price. We also booked the hotel through their web-site. The property was unbelievably close to attractions and the suite was great. I arrived sick and the staff directed me to a nearby pharmacist who dispensed antibiotics and other medication. The room was quiet at night and everything was a short walk away. We enjoyed drinks and breakfast (not at the same time!) on our balcony in the evening/morning respectively. The young front desk and restaurant staff were super-helpful and the breakfast was everything we could have wanted. They also made reservations for the Athens culinary tour (great) and for a dinner in Piraeus at a seaside restaurant.

Room Tip: Walk to most everything! The Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Changing of the guards at parliament, shopping, dining and take the metro anywhere else you want to go. A tip for dealing with BOTH Turkish and Greek taxis - if traveling at night and after a price has been agreed to - ONLY hand over the money AFTER the internal light has been turned on and make sure as you pass the bills over that both you and the taxi driver acknowledge the denomination of the bank note. It is easy for you to hand over a 20 Euro note with the lights off and the driver to say "this is only a five" pulling the old switcheroo. I knew this in advance but I got caught once going from Lykavettus to the plaka area so make sure all transactions occur in well lit areas. This is NOTHING to do with the hotel but it is something to think about.
