“Charming city centre hotel”
Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

We arrived very late after a much delayed flight. The welcome was warm, friendly and professional. The rooms are very well presented with s good bed. We didn't eat at the hotel due to having other plans but everything else was very pleasing. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to my friends.

Stayed at the Ava Hotel in Plaka for 2 nights. We are 2 adults and 2 kids and found the hotel to be located at the foot of the Parthenon. Location is excellent and found the staff to be extremely helpful and courteous. In addition, the rooms were lovely and catered for all ages.

We stayed two nights at the AVA Hotel. It met all of our expections, which is to say clean and comfortable rooms in a great location, with a friendly and helpful staff. AVA doesn't try or pretend to be a full 5 star hotel experience, so if you're looking for restaurants, pool, spa, etc., try some of the larger hotels.

We had an executive suite room, which was a good sized bedroom, large suite area and a bathroom. It included a kitchenette, which was along the wall in one corner, and not intrusive (for those of us who don't want to feel like we're staying in someone's apartment.) The bed was comfortable, and the extra bed they brought in for the third member of our group was also comfortable. The A/C worked just fine on the hot August days while we were there. The room was nicely appointed, if not lavishly luxurious.

If you're looking for an Acropolis view, be aware that the pictures posted by other guests from the balconies are accurate. Looking out the window you just see the buildings on the other side of the street. Standing on the balcony (ours was the small size without chairs), you can look one way toward Hadrian's Gate and the Temple of Zeus, or the other way toward the Acropolis (no view of the Parthenon). You can only see these standing on the balcony, not from the room.

The bathroom was good sized, and nicely decorated with colored tile, even if the showed was small. I read a lot of comments about the shower, and was a bit nervous about what we would find. It is clevely built in a corner of the rectangular bathroom, which helps provide ample space in the bathroom. But, there is no disguising that the shower itself is small. That being said, I had no complaints about it from my usually picky family, and found that it worked just fine. It might be a problem for extra large individuals - I'm 6ft, 215 lbs and was able to use it without any real problem.

The front desk staff was friendly, and willing to answer questions. The individual (not sure of the name) who was there when we checked in and checked out was particularly helpful. (AVA - this was the gentlement working the mornings of 14 August and 16 August).

The location of the hotel is great - just up the block are the pedestrian only streets in the Plaka, and walking distance to the Acropolis and Acropolis museum was much shorter than for hotels close to Syntagma Square.

Read a recent review about the small elevator. Yes, it is small, but seemed modern to us and worked just fine.

Wifi was free and worked fine. Free computers with internet access are also available in a little room right off the lobby.

Our rate didn't include breakfast, so we didn't try it.

When on the first day of my vacation I fell and broke my ankle, just up the street from the hotel, I become extraordinarily dependant on its service. And how lucky I was, Dimitria did first aid and found a hospital, Mira, Marius, Stavros, and all the others, whose names unfortunately I no longer remember, joined forces to make our time with them as problem-free as possible. They were always smiling and ready to help. Fortunately we had reserved a roomy executive suite, with a spacious bed-room, living-room and kitchenette, which made it possible to move around and also be independant. The location is excellent, within walking distance of most attractions, but beware of the uneven pavement!

Beautiful, modern rooms with comfy beds.
Staff who will go to the ends of the earth to assist you.
Fantastic location, on a quiet road but within easy reach of everything.

There's a reason why this is rated the #1 hotel in Athens year after year.

Do you really need any more convincing?

I checked into this hotel because of the #1 ranking it had earned 3 years in a row from Trip Advisors and I was not disappointed. Everything about this boutique hotel is first rate from the professionalism of the staff to the quality of the rooms. It is also located in the "Plaka" section of Athens which is where the Acropolis is as well. You can walk out the front door of the hotel turn right and within minutes be standing below the Parthenon and surrounded by great restaurants, shops and the new acropolis museum. Location and quality make this hotel the first place you should try to book. During the same overseas trip, I also stayed at the "New Hotel" when I was unable to book the AVA. It is also quite nice but not quite as nice as the AVA. The AVA has "family" feel to it that I prefer over the "corporate" feel that the New Hotel has.

We stayed here in April 2013 and had a wonderful experience. Our room was the Executive Suite 202 which has a kitchen, wonderful bathroom, a long, skinny balcony where you can look over to the Acropolis or down to the Arch, as well as a spacious living room and bedroom. (Many of the photos available on here depict the view from the balcony -- look for the photos with the flags.) Breakfast was included and is enough to get you through your morning walking and sightseeing.

The location is ideal as you never have to get into a vehicle if you don't want to! You can literally walk to all of the tourist locations and the hotel is central to wonderful shopping, sightseeing, restaurants, etc.

The staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel is clean and bright. Since staying, I have recommended it to friends who are passing through Athens and want a centrally located, nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Highly recommend room 202 which has a small kitchen, nice bathroom, living space and bedroom, as wel...
