“wonderful hotel with fantastic service”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Have just returned from five night stay in Athens and stayed at this fabulous hotel. I can honestly say that I have never stayed anywhere where service compares. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The rooms are beautifully designed, large and impeccably clean. If you get the opportunity stay in one of the executive suites. The location is ideal, a few minutes easy walk to all the sites and sits on the edge of Plaka an area of quaint little streets with tavernas. I was a bit concerned that because the hotel was so close to everything that the noise level may be high, it isnt, the hotel has excellent soundproofing and sits on a quiet side street.
I would recommend this hotel with its excellent staff/service to all. When I visit Athens again I will stay at this hotel. Thank you to everyone at the AVA hotel and suites for making my husband and I so comfortable and creating lovely lasting memories of our holiday to Athens

Room Tip: All rooms are nice but for the extra space and features and view of Hadrians Arch and the Acropolis...

I realized after I got back that I was actually obsessed with trying to describe to friends, colleagues and family just how wonderful this hotel was. The location, of course, was great. One block from the edge of the Acropolis area (by the Theater of Dionysius), a view of Hadrian's arch and the Acropolis from our balcony, one block from the New Acropolis Museum, outside but on the edge of the tourist-oriented Plaka Zone and very close to some wonderful restaurants...what could be better? Taxis routinely grouped at the end of the street by Hadrian's arch, so we could wander around and still find transportation to explore further. We walked on foot to most everything we came to see: Acropolis, Agora, Cyclades Museum, New Acropolis Museum, Museum of Archaeology.

But the hotel itself is what is such a treasure. We were offered an upgrade to a suite (to include breakfast) for about 25E per night. Once inside the lobby, seeing the beautiful and classy place that it was, we decided we definitely wanted the upgrade. The prices were already good. Reception was warm, and staff was generous with their smiles, time and help throughout our 7 day stay.

The suite was amazing. Marble bathroom with ceilings painted like the sky, and fresco details, wonderful fittings. Great robes, slippers, towels, sheets. Carpeting was luxe. Furniture was so comfortable Mini-bar and regular refrigerator (and extraordinarily reasonable prices on the mini-bar). We had a small kitchen, which we used a little. Bed was king sized and so comfortable, all furnishings were lovely. The room was gold and cream, two flat-screen TV's with a vast array of channels (must say the German sitcoms were hilarious, never had seen German TV before). Lots of local channels helped us learn a lot more about Greek culture.

All restaurants recommended by hotel staff were excellent.

The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we've ever have. Perhaps because it was winter and because of recent events in Greece, the hotel was not crowded. We only once saw another couple in the dining room. Breakfast included the best whole grain bread (with sesame), various cheese, cold cuts, kalamata olives, feta, really good Greek yoghurt with a variety of excellent jams and an outstanding honey, waffle on request, and each day, either sunny side up eggs or scrambled eggs, not to mention fruit, fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, peach nectar, excellent espresso (unlimited), many more breads, and then, the pastries and cakes. Two lovely women worked in the breakfast room.

Staff had excellent English, maids were completely unobtrusive (a real plus), and we were treated like true guests. Truthfully, we can rarely afford a hotel of this calibre. Rooms like this in another city would be astronomically expensive (and there would probably still be some complaint!) This was quiet, too.

Oh, and right outside the hotel (to its right) is a little convenience store. The hotel did not provide hair conditioner, but there was an excellent and inexpensive aloe vera based product right next door (along with wines, liqueurs, fruits, snacks, etc., and a nice lady who staffed the store until early evening).

So try to picture true luxury right next to the Acropolis, with the Plaka's many fine restaurants in between (and yes, I do like a bit of tourist shopping, there's that too). We also won a package of tickets from their Facebook giveaway (we got into every museum for free and would have had a dinner too, had we not forgotten to organize it - you have to tell them which night and we were too busy running around to remember). It was a special occasion (birthday) for one of us, and there was a nice bottle of champagne on arrival.

Room Tip: Do consider upgrading to the suite on the second floor (first floor European). The sweeping stairca...

Just returned from a short stay in Athens. Absolutely loved the AVA hotel! The location can't be beat--on a quiet street very close to the Acropolis, metro, and many dining choices. Our room was huge with very comfortable beds, sitting room, and a mini-kitchen. The breakfast was very good. The staff is friendly and professional. Thank you to all the Tripadvisor reviews that helped us make the perfect choice--it was everything we read about and more!

Room Tip: Suite with kitchenette had a microwave, stove, fridge, coffeemaker, kettle, etc. Perfect for preparin...

Located in La Plaka on a narrow street which stretches between the Parthenon and the Temple of Zeus, this completely charming hotel is such a wonderful find. After a very long journey from Colorado we were greeted graciously and shown to a really lovely suite with living room, small kitchen, spacious bedroom, bath, and a private balcony. Sidewalk cafes, great restaurants, and fun shopping are all within walking distance. We stayed at the AVA in September of 2012 and it was so perfect that we are returning this coming June.

Room Tip: We had a front of the hotel executive suite with balcony. I believe it was on the second floor. Fr...

AVA Hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance of the sights, shopping, and good restaurants. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and very helpful with suggesting restaurants and providing directions. They even helped us track down the closest Starbucks so that we could purchase an Athens Starbucks mug! That request required a bit of computer research for them, but they were happy to do it.

We stayed in a suite. In included a bedroom with twin beds, a living area with a couch, tv, etc., a small kitchenette, and a spacious bedroom. We had three adults in the room and there was plenty of space -- even with an extra bed in the living area. One friend described the bathroom as the "nicest she had ever seen." I thought that given the size, the shower could have been a bit larger, but it was truly my only complaint.

Breakfast consists of the usual European buffet of juices, tea/coffe/hot chocolate, yogurts, breads, jams, cheeses, cereal, and fruit. On two mornings, all eggs and bacon were left on an order basis. The final morning, scrambled eggs and bacon were in the buffet. I asked for a fried egg, over medium, each morning and was happily provided one. It made for a very filling breakfast!

Our cab driver did struggle a bit with the location (having to call to get directions) so make sure that you bring the address of the hotel with you. A small map might have been helpful as well. There is a 35 Euro flat rate charge from the airport to the hotel for the cab.

Room Tip: The larger suites are nice, but don't purchase them solely for the view as you need to be on the...

The AVA Hotel is located on a quiet side street in the Plaka, within easy walking distance of many of the major sights of Athens, particularly the agora and the Acropolis Museum. Walking to the Monistiraki metro station, Ermou Street, and the flea market is very easy. The hotel is immaculate. Our room was exactly as advertised, spacious, in extremely good order, and with a patio with a view of the Acropolis and Hadrian's Arch. Service levels in the hotel are exceptional. We were particularly happy with the fact that the hotel has true non-smoking rooms, which I have found are very rare in Europe. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. Breakfast is very good. There is a small computer room off the lobby that has a small library of guidebooks that you can borrow. There are many good restaurants nearby. I would not hesitate to stay at the AVA again.

Room Tip: We liked our rooms on the third floor, facing the front of the hotel.

There is not much to say about this hotel that hasn't already been said by the previous reviewers. The staff were all terrific. From the moment they greeted us as soon as our taxi pulled up to the front door, to the moment they said good-bye at the end of our stay they could not have been more attentive, helpful and friendly. The room was beautifully appointed, the bed extremely comfortable, and the surroundings were quiet. Breakfast, which was included, was served in a spacious and spotlessly clean dining room, and again the staff were perfectly attentive though never intrusive. As has been mentioned by almost every reviewer the location of the AVA hotel is perfect, a very short walking distance to the major sites, with many nice restaurants and tavernas nearby.
