This hotel is a very good base if you wish to explore the Acropolis, Monastiraki & Plaka area. It is a short 10 minute walk to Monastiraki & Plaka neighborhood. The rooms were very clean and breakfast was basic. The staff was very friendly and helpful with information. We had to leave at 5:00 AM to catch a ferry and they packed us breakfast to go, which was really very nice of them. The Monastiraki metro station is a 10 minute walk. If you plan to go to Piraeus Port, to catch a ferry to the islands, you can also walk 2 blocks to Omonia metro station (instead of Monastiraki).

Room Tip: Choose the room on a higher floor.

After living in hotels, guesthouses, hostels, campsites and apartments for the last 200+ days, the reception at Economy is by far the best. Upon check-in we were given a detailed description of how to get to the main sites in Athens along with the prices and where passes could be used and for how long. Plus on our way out there was also someone at reception available for help. The location is also another big plus, near the Psiri neighborhood which has many great restaurants and bars and just a few blocks from two different metro lines in either direction. The room had enough space and storage for two and the balcony was a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine from the shop just two doors down or from the refrigerated case in the lobby. Sure the room was outdated, but it was very clean and to me that is more impressive as you really have to maintain older rooms. Plus I don’t visit cities to spend time in my room, I want something clean, comfortable and near public transportation/in an area that is within walking distance of sites so I can explore they city with ease. And this hotel has it all. But if you wanted a fancy looking room and to spend more money on a hotel instead of all the great food and sites, then you probably aren’t even really interested in staying here.

This is a great place to base yourself in Athens. Everything is walkable from here (although I do like walking) - you don't need public transport to get to the historic sites from this hotel, nor the restaurants (good restaurants 15-20 minute walk away with views of the Acropolis). I spent 8 nights here. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and will provide you with maps and info on all the tourist hotpots. Staff have good sense of humour - typically Greeks. The service was top notch - good guys and girls on reception! Breakfast is included. The room was modern and clean, and wifi worked well. It's great coming back to a room that looks new again each evening. Room has good air con. You can buy drinks water and more in the lobby. Also and a big plus is the tours offered from the big tour operators at the reception desk. You can book great day trips out of Athens to historic sites such as Delphi or longer trips at reception and the tour company will pick you up from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Athens.

This hotel offers great value for money if you want a central location and a comfortable stay, for a few days city break. The Economy Hotel is positioned just off one of the main streets in Athens and easily accessible from the metro stop if you are coming by public transport from the airport. In the square opposite, you can also catch the city sightseeing tour bus if you don't fancy walking around the city each day.
The rooms are fairly basic in terms of decor, which is quite typical of greek hotels, but are very clean and cleaned/towels replaced everyday. The beds are comfortable and there was no extra charge for the air con, which looked like a new system, and as the hotel is located on a side street we didn't hear any noise at all from outside. So all in all we enjoyed a restful stay! The bathroom was small but again perfectly adequate and clean, with a shower that could be hung on the wall so you dont have to hold it over yourself when you shower.
The breakfast had a good range including eggs, cooked meats, cheese, cereals, bread, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, juices, coffee and a selection of teas. This was perfect for me as someone who only eats gluten free as there was plenty of choice aside from the breads which makes a refreshing change!!
We also found the service at the hotel very good. The staff on reception were polite and helpful, and had lots of good recommendations of areas to eat and visit.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Economy and unless you like living in the laps of luxury I would definitely recommend it to anyone else who wants fantastic value for money place to stay in Athens.

Room Tip: Visit the roof terrace for lovely views out towards the Acropolis, and across Town Hall square!
