“Our 3-week Insiders private guided tour was fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2014

I’ve just returned from a three-week tour with the AthensInsiders and I can honestly say it was the best vacation ever! Our Signilar Painting Holiday in Greece included Athens, Delphi, Nafplio, Sounio, Mycenae, the islands of Santorini and Mykonos, and four days in Istanbul. Our trip was full but never exhausting. With the Insiders taking care of all the details, our small group enjoyed each day of traveling to the fullest.
The private guided tour concept is so smart! With the details and inevitable hassles of travel managed, we were truly free to enjoy all the beauty of Greece and Turkey. Because the tour was personalized, we never felt rushed or pressured to meet a schedule. The Insiders accommodated different needs within our small group, and never hesitated to arrange something special, including scouting out the best places to take our sunrise painters at dawn! Unlike many guided tours, ours was truly personalized, allowing us to make spontaneous choices each day.
The Insiders took care of all arrangements, greeting us upon our arrival at the Athens airport and driving us to the first of our hotels with a spectacular view, a wonderful breakfast, and an ideal location for sightseeing. Also included were ferry bookings, additional flights, airport transfers, our own comfortable van complete with water and snacks, and guided city and country walks. We even had cell phones provided for our use in Greece! Museum passes took us to the head of the line, saving hours of waiting, and our docents and guides were always first-rate. A private art history lecture in Athens informed our entire visit, giving us reference points for art and archaeology along the way.
We were always offered several choices of when and where we would like to eat and often had an early dinner that suited our American schedules. We dined at local eateries where dinner was cooked just for us. In one case, fish had just been brought off the boat. We enjoyed some popular tourist spots as well as many off-the-beaten-track places in extraordinary settings. A farewell dinner in Athens was truly a memorable gourmet feast!
The Insiders had the ability to deal with unexpected circumstances so that no day was wasted. For example, our Athens district was closed to traffic for most of one day, so we took a superb walk around the Agora and let our drivers deal with traffic later in the day.
Our guides, lead by Anthia and Alex, were personable, flexible, patient, knowledgeable, attentive to our needs without ever being intrusive, and just plain fun to be with! Clearly, they know and love both the cities and the countryside. They always took the time to find answers to our questions and had a wonderful sense of humor. An unexpected benefit of the trip was our ability to get to know our guides and develop friendships with them as we gained insight into the hopes and concerns of people living in Greece today. I wholeheartedly recommend the AthensInsiders to anyone seeking a unique, unforgettable trip to Greece

“What a great way to spend your first evening in Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

After two flights totally 11 hours of fly time, my wife and I arrived at our hotel in Athens late in the afternoon. We always like to time zone adjust our international travel as soon as possible and embarking on some short excursion is our preferred choice. A friend had told us about Athens Insider and suggested the walking tour/cooking class combination. At 5 PM, George met us at the hotel and we were off. He is an excellent guide and, believe me, an even better chef! His English is second nature and it was easy to talk with him as we casually worked our way from the Parliament and into the Plaka, with George casually providing both historical and contemporary insight along the way. We asked a lot of questions and George eagerly responded to them all. After a couple hours, and with daylight on the wane, we worked our way down along the ancient Agora. In a matter of minutes, we were walking through the door of a beautiful private home. Natalie, who also works for Athens Insider, was waiting for us. This was such an unexpected, yet pleasant, surprise and more was to come. With beverages and appetizers waiting, we embarked on the preparation of wonderfully authentic and classically prepared Greek meal. In addition to his touring talents, it turned out that George was an extremely talented and trained chef and Natalie (who also speaks beautiful English) is a Kung Fu caliber Sous Chef! They encouraged our involvement in the preparation process and explained it all along the way....very educational. Then the four of us enjoyed a wonderful meal and more conversation. The evening ended perfectly-we were completely satiated on many levels and it was just the right time to return to the hotel and let our body clocks adjust. This is an experience that we will encourage all of our Athens bound friends to enjoy. It exceeded our expectations. Strongest Recommendation from Chris and Karen

Chris and Karen,
It was so nice meeting you and enjoying a tasty Greek dinner cooked by you and our chef!
I hope friends back home will also have the pleasure to enjoy the fruits of your efforts and have a small taste of what Greek food is all about.
All the best.

“Fun Two Days of Touring in Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

We used Athens Insiders for two day's worth of tours and our airport transfers. They handled everything so easily and I can't thank them enough for making Athens enjoyable for us. Anthia took us on a half day walking tour around the Acropolis. It was a nice leisurely walk, with interesting stops and history lessons along the way. On the second day we met Chef George and toured the markets and local shops. He was a lot of fun, and we concluded our day with him by having a leisurely lunch and learning the proper way to drink Ouzo. I highly recommend Athens Insiders!

“These guys made me love Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2014

I'm not a big city girl at ALL and so I arranged this tour with Athens Insiders (at the suggestion of a friend) so I could have a more personalized, hands-on tour. It was perfect. I wish I had delayed a day so I wasn't so tired, but that's my own fault.

Really great, personalized experience. Got an excellent feel for Athens, LOVE the city. The guides felt more like friends than guides. Daphne even invited me out for dinner with some friends the following evening. Very grateful to have met these ladies.

“Amazing food and great people”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We got picked up at our hotel lobby by or executive chef, George and he took us around the local markets and gave us some insight as to where the food comes from and what makes it so special. We ended up in a very nice house where George and his assistant started explaining us the menu we chose and how we were going to proceed. Everything was so fresh! We pureed our own tomatoes for the sauce, learned how to do everything in our 5 course dinner in a hands on approach. It was a blast and the freshness of the food and quality of the preparation was so good we can still taste it. We also got professional pics and the recipes to keep with us so we can try to reinvent it ourselves. A great experience, a must-do!
