“food tour and Acropolis tour outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

My wife and I both really enjoyed the Food Tour with Despina. The tour visited several shops and restaurants with small tastes at most. We also did a walk through of the meat/fish market and the produce market. She provides a map and good details of the locations so you know how to return to places you enjoyed. Despina is proud of Greek food and it's heritage and I feel her tour enhanced my experience of Greece and Athens and highly recommend it. She was also our guide for the Acropolis and offered an insightful history of the Ancient site.

Dear Athens Walking Tours guest,

Thank you for recommending our tour; we are very satisfied we managed to offer you a wonderful experience by visiting the Acropolis - the highlight of Athens and the next day the markets and exclusive shops where you had the opportunity to get to know the culinary history of Greece. We are sure Despina did her best and added to your experience. More and more people want to combine the food tasting and the visit of the Acropolis in one day so we have designed the “Acropolis and Athens Food Tour” a beautiful combination tour for one day experience.

“Food tour - great combination of history, culture, and gastronomy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

My husband and I both really enjoyed the Food Tour with Despina. The variety of shops and locations were interesting and each stop provided an new area of learning both within some of the history of Greece but also the larger culture. This tour helped have the current city and its residents come alive in a way that no other walking tour I have ever taken has. The company provides a map and good details of the locations so that folks can go back for seconds (or thirds!) during their time in Athens. As wonderful, important, and impressive as the historic sites are, both of us feel that the food walking tour enhanced our experience of Athens and highly recommend it.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and other travelers.

In Greece we say “love goes through stomach” and I will add you can learn the history and the culture of a country through its culinary history. In Athens Food Tours by tasting more than 20 different traditional foods and visiting non tourist areas where you come upon the locals you comprehend the city and its history much better. We make every possible effort to make the tour a unique experience and a valuable memory by providing our guests with material like maps and necessary info on the tour itself.

Thank you.

“A Tasty Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

This tour provides not only a taste of Greece, but an insight into the Greek culture. Despina is passonate about her subject and her country. The visits were all very interesting, but my favourite was the grocery store featuring produce from the little producers around the country. Feta with thyme infused olive oil is a taste sensation! Find time to do this tour - you won't regret it.

Dear Athens Food Tour participant,
We selected with great care all places we visit by the food tour. Each one has its own charm. The grocery shop tends to be the favourite of many people. Yes, olive oil is one of the pillars of the Greek cuisine; no wonder you loved it. Your recommendation people to do this tour is precious for us and we thank you a lot.

“An excellent introduction to Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

We took this tour on our first morning in Athens and what a delightful introduction to the city it was.
Despina took us an a fabulous food odyssey that covered food, politics, history and culture. The tastings were delicious and the information excellent. We were even brave enough to head back to one of the stops the next day by ourselves to enjoy the excellent "pies".
We highly recommend this tour for young and old alike. If you are coming to Athens, don't forget that 99% of the city is calm and quiet with no political unrest, so this is a very safe tour. Well done Despina!

Personal note from Despina: "Thank you for your feedback and time to post this review. I am happy I managed within only three and a half hours to give you a complete introduction to the city which is actually my aim. I am myself and like to talk about all actual facts and issues we come upon in this tour. Whether it is pies or fruit or olive oil or people and work conditions or unrest and protests. We come by this tour to such an alive and thriving with life part of the city that you cannot but talk about everything"

I just want to repeat your last sentence dear guest ."don't forget that 99% of the city is calm and quiet with no political unrest, so this is a very safe tour."

“The best way to see Athens!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2012

One of the main reasons that I came to Europe was to taste the local cuisine and Despina's walking food tour of Athens made this an unforgettable experience. She is extremely informed on the history of food, the reasons that certain customs are in place and in how to taste some of the hidden gems of Athens. Go hungry and where comfy shoes. It isn't a ton of walking, but she will keep you on the move. I enjoyed the visit to the local gourmet shop the best, where we tasted some of the best cheeses and olive oils that I had in all of Europe. Wonderful!
