“A special day in Athens”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

I booked the "Hidden Athens" tour through Viator who subcontract to this company. It was our first day in Athens and unfortunately it was National Day. The entire centre of the city was closed down by armed police at every corner and it took us half an hour to work our way around the cordon to the rendezvous where Kostas was waiting for us. Fortunately for us, the other party did not make it so we had Kostas to ourselves. With the military parade on, he was more than happy to take time out from the tour and, as an ex Presidential guard, he was a terrific commentator for the watching of the parade. When we had seen enough we resumed the tour itself which takes in some hidden parts of the Plaka that we, as ordinary tourists, would not have found. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and felt like we were parting from a friend at the end of our time. He has a number of different guides on his books and we had no recommendation in recommending his company to fellow travellers along the way, who reported back favourably.

“3 hr bike tour - a MUST”
Reviewed April 1, 2014

Costas was our guide - our departure time was 10am. Needless to say, My husband and I enjoyed too much Ouzo the night before and had closed the black out curtains in the hotel room and woke up AT 10am! Costas called us to see where we were at and i told him our circumstances....We were the only ones on the tour, so he said, "no worries, take your time and meet me at 10:30am)
Wow, how amazing is that? We met and Costas was super knowledgeable, extremely pleasant. And on our tour, since it was only the 2 of us, and Costas didn't have another group, we ended up doing a little more than the alotted 3hrs!
This is a fabulous way to see ATHENS!

“Living Greek, If Only for a Day”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

Having used "walks" tours in Paris, Madrid, London and other cities, I found this company on-line and decided to give it a try. After arranging for the Athens Food Tour via email, I met the owner at Monastiraki Square beside the small church a couple of metro stops from my hotel. Kostas Chatzivasileiou, Owner and Manager, arrived exactly on time and we began several hours of touring the markets and hidden foodie treasures of Athens Centre. I had a blast, and other than the olives we sampled from barrels, every taste from cold Greek coffee with heavy cream, to Bougatsa, Kavourmas, and Graviera cheese were new flavors and discoveries for me. Most fascinating were our discussions on the influence of the ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Constantine Empires on Greek food and cooking. Highly knowledgeable and personable, Kostas could not have been a better tour guide -- from the meat, fish and vegetable markets to the Armenian sausage maker and Samba Cafe coffee roasters -- they know him, he knows them, and he introduces you to all their sights, smells and tastes! The HARD PART is picking what coffee, teas, olive oil, wine, and other goodies that will fit into your luggage weight allowance. In my case, a jar of Greek Sour Cherry Seasonal Sweet was worth leaving a couple of books behind. We ended the day watching a 'donut magician' make fresh Loukoumades similar to those served to ancient Greek Olympic victors. Don miss the loukoumades, especially when they are soaked in the honey of sage flowers and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Awesome! Already looking forward to my next visit to Athens and the opportunity to take another tour with Athens Walks!

“Amazing food tour”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Kostas took us on an amazing food tour if Athens. I've been many times to this city but have never seen the places he took us to. It was a real look into the way Athenians live and was fascinating, from the fish and meat market to the amazing pastry shop where philo pastry is made fresh on the premises. Also we tasted some delicious cold cuts and cheeses and very special Greek wines and liqueurs. Kostas was so passionate about his love for his country and the fresh produce it offers. He had an amazing wealth of knowledge as well. Would highly recommend this tour.

“Fantastic Athens Food Tour”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

We just did the 4 hour food walking tour of Athens. Kostas is a great guide with allot of knowledge of the culinary side of Athens and the history of the area. This is not a traditional tour and takes you to some amazing places that you would not normally find with samples of the best produce in the area. Defiantly a must for every visit to Athens, even if you have been many times you will learn and see something new on this tour.
