Before we arrived we searched the price for two rooms there...the price was 84 euros for two rooms. There the reception guy sais that one room is 55 euros, so 110 for two rooms. When we checked out they said they can't give us the invoice because the printer does not work.
The room was spacy, but the furniture was very old. The fridge too. To have something cold you had to leave it there one day. The air conditioning was without a remote control and the heat was barely functioning, it did only at night. The room smelled like dankness, dampness, mould if you kept your balcony door closed. There was a big spot on the wall,i don,t know what was that. The bathroom had a bath tub and a shower in the tub and the all the other pieces were old.
The balcony curtain was dirty. Under the bed sheets there was a bedspread with blood stains on it.
The view and the surrounding of the hotel are desolating. Around the hotel were many weird persons kind of scary.
Internet was available only in the lobby , downstairs, not free of charge.
The good thing is that Omonia square was very close.

Big disappointment. The nice pictures of this hotel that are shown on the internet are deceiving since this place is completely different once you get there. This place urgently needs to be renovated. This might be a 3 star hotel for Greek standards but never for North American standards (where it could be a 2 star hotel at the most). This place was last decorated in the 70's, the walls and curtains are old and dirty, the furniture is old and worn out. The air conditioning unit is just a noisy fan. It is basically clean though, clean sheets, not so white towels, clean bathroom. There's a limited choice of food for breakfast (which is not very good either). Last but not least, staff hotel are moody, they can be polite but sometimes they're very rude (they keep your passport for a while, so first they grab it from you and then they just throw it at you), but apparently these awful manners are the norm in Greece.
Finally, while it is centrally located (near Omonia square), it is scary going out at night. The neighbourhood is dodgy, full of junkies and prostitutes, there are obviously thieves everywhere so beware! I would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

The hotel was nice and clean and the rooms were fine but the location was horrible! The streets are dirty and scary. Grafitti and drugged up people everywhere, did not feel safe.
The hotel staff weren't overly friendly.

This is an average hotel like Travel Inn, there is sooo much to see in Athens so if you are looking for hotel just bed and breakfast - this is ideal. HOWEVER........ the area (2/3 blocks away) which is quite close is crap. There are prostitutes on the sides so going at 8pm - i was scared.

During our tour of Greece, we spent four days in Athens and three nights at the Ionis Hotel, located just two streets away from one of the most important squares in the city: the Omonia square... which is also one of the creepiest place I have seen so far. But let's take it step by step:

The good side: the hotel is surprisingly clean. The bathroom looked very well, despite the small and bizarre-looking tub, and there were absolutely no water problems, although we were at the 9th and last floor. The room itself was well-equipped, including a fake nightstand which was actually a radio, and was generally very comfortable. Breakfasts were plentiful, although not variated at all, and the evenings meals were great (although there were no menus to choose from, we were quite impressed when we were brough traditional dishes that tasted surprisingly well for a hotel restaurant). Hotel staff was helpful and polite, although a bit sad-looking - no young staff at all, only people in their fourties, fifties or even older).

And now for the (very) bad side: Don't choose this hotel unless you truly know what you're getting yourself into. So, only choose it if you're prepared to see the ugly side of Athens: the very stincky square of Omonia, where is also situated the largest market in the capital (20 or so minutes away from the Akropole), the shady streets and the scary-looking junkies that shoot drugs no matter the hour just around the corner of this hotel. The entire neighbourhood is awful and almost made me decide never to go to Athens again. The view from the hotel is just as bad the ground-level surroundings: either somebody's apartment, the last floor of an empty block of flats or a deserted parking lot - depends on the side of the building or floor. Also, but already unimportant at this point, the hotel is obviously understaffed - not surprise, considering the area - as it takes the two guys working in the restaurant a while to clean up during/after every meal. Also, the breakfasts are really heavy: fried eggs, fried bacon, etc. So don't go there if you're on a diet!

As a conclusion, the hotel could have been a gem, but the area in which it's located pretty much destroys its every good aspect.

Will not stay at this hotel again. The rooms were quite shabby and poorly-lit, and the airconditioning didn't work that well (in the midst of summer). People at the front desk were helpful, but weren't very friendly. This hotel is in a shady street, especially at night, though it is not far from the more popular tourist areas. The breakfast was nice.

Very central location and easy access to all the sights and shopping areas. The staff at the reception were very friendly. The rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was great. I would defiantly recommend for a short stay
