We stayed only one night but we had a good experience. Check-in went very smoothly and the rooms were larger than I had expected. The bathroom was much bigger than European hotels that I've stayed at in the past. We loved the roof top bar and while we didn't dine there, we enjoyed cocktails for happy hour and later that night after dinner. Great views of the Acropolis and of Athens. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and most of it was pretty good, although not exceptional. I would have no problems staying here again.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 long nights and it was probably the worst hotel I have ever been to. There is no way this hotel is 4 stars, the rooms are maybe 2 stars at most. We arrived late at night and were disappointed from the beginning. The front desk staff were brisk and borderline rude. No smiles, no welcoming reception. The room we received (509) was a standard double room, and it was filthy. The carpets were stained and had not been vacuumed (there was other people's hair on the floor). The worst was the bathroom. The shower was covered in black mold, all around the caulking and the "window" from the shower into the room. The showerhead was so dirty we had to clean it before using. I don't ask for too much from a hotel, just a clean place to sleep, but this so called 4 star hotel was worse than a motel 6. Since it was around midnight when we arrived, I was too tired to complain about the room. The next day I politely asked to switch rooms and the receptionist was defensive and hostile. She finally agreed to show us the supposedly only other room available, and it was just as dirty as the first. At this point we had no choice but to stay there for another 2 nights. The beds were hard as a rock also, which I could deal with if the room wasn't so dirty. The breakfast was OK, and the location was good, walking distance to all of the major attractions. However, I would recommend you avoid this hotel at all costs due to the lack of cleanliness and rude staff.

We stayed three nights here. Two for our Rei island hopping tour and one more day in Athens. It is very close to the acropolis metro station and convenient to the sites. Breakfast was really good at the hotel and had a fresh orange juicer. The room was small and didn't have a balcony. Staff was nice. Elevators are tiny. If I were to travel to athens again, it probably won't stay here. I liked our airbnb place that was much cheaper and a block away.

The location was perfect for visiting major attractions in Athens. The rooftop bar was amazing with a great view of the Acropolis. The piano player made every effort to play the songs people wanted to hear, and even spent his own time to find sheet music to play a requested song he didn't know. The bartenders were friendly, and remembered what our favorite drinks were when we returned. The restaurant at the rooftop bar had great food, as well. The breakfast was far better than any breakfast you could find in the U.S.

The hotel is pretty average, our room was a good size for a couple. The bed was quite comfortable. The hotel itself is in a fairly good location, a 10-minute walk from the base of the Acropolis and Plaka. The breakfast was also okay although the coffee was surprisingly weak for Greece. It tasted like diluted American coffee which meant it tasted of nothing. The juicer looked interesting but was just too exhausting to contend with first thing in the morning.

Easily the hotel’s best feature is the rooftop bar and restaurant: largely open to the air, it has splendid views of the Acropolis, better than average food, and benefits hugely from Nicholas, wine expert and cocktail master, who combines the tasks of barman and waiter with skill, charm, and unfailing good humour.

Most distinctive feature is the odd décor in many of the public rooms: “Byzantine rococo”? Gold and silver glass mosaic, huge metal ornaments, and glass studded textiles. Mercifully, the bedrooms are 1980s bland. Harder to forgive are the unyielding mattresses and cheap pillows. My single was small, with a narrow window, but clean. I could never get the TV to work (though the maid apparently could), and the beverage tray was only erratically replenished, leaving me one morning with only camomile tea to start the day. The bathroom is adequate, though the towels are small. The lifts come very quickly – not always the case in hotels. On reflection, if I have to go back I’ll check the laundry bills more carefully.

Breakfast offers plenty of choice, with efficient staff. During my extended business stay, there was a range of receptionists, most of them pleasant and helpful. No taxi rank, but the Callirhoe is on a busy road, and it’s usually possible to get one reasonably quickly. The surrounding area is dominated, like much of Athens, by a truly astonishing number of motorbike shops and garages.

I’d return for the rooftop bar, but for little else.

My wife and I stayed here for the first three nights of our Greek honeymoon and were very satisfied. The best feature of this hotel is its location. Aside from our Acropolis tour we walked everywhere. We had no problems navigating through Plaka, Constitution Square/ Parliament area, New Acropolis Museum, Temple of Zeus, and the Theatre of Dionysos. Hotel is close to city transit but we ran out of time before we needed it. Restaurants are abundant in Plaka so finding a place to eat was always close. The area was very safe and we were able to walk around freely at quite late hours and not feel in danger. Service of the staff was always friendly and pleasant. Food at the rooftop restaurant is very good and has a really amazing view. Our only real complaint was that the beds were a little stiff for our liking and our room was directly under the rooftop restaurant which got a little loud the one night. This was a very good value and we would have no issues staying here again.
