Lots of shopping and restaurants with quaint outdoor seating. Can be a little annoying with a greeter at every restaurant trying to lure you in, so be prepared to politely say no a lot! Fun to just walk around and shop, grab a freddo cappuccino or gelato, or feed the stray cats!

The range of products available at very reasonable prices in this precinct is jaw dropping. Little narrow streets with not much vehicular traffic are great to just window shop if you like, or , like us, find that your Euros can go a long way. Haggling is not out of the question. This is where you get the breathtaking views of the Acropolis at some of the corners.

We enjoyed Plaka even though we were wary with the reviews from other travelers on tripadvisor. We arrived in Athens during the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Greece and experienced a very strong police presence. We visited Kostis a jewellery shop where we (5 persons were in our party including me) bought great pieces at a reasonable price the owner told us that she (Zanett) makes the pieces herself. I like this store because we were able to shop without being hassled and I really appreciated that. We also had gelato at a shop called Gelatopoli | Ice Cream & Coffee,Dionysiou Areopagitou 8 (Acropolis Metro station)
which we found on our way to the Acropolis, the gelato there is dreamy. We shopped for sandals at Dimitri's travel Goods and Leather Goods and had our shoes fitted in the store. Before returning to the hotel we stopped at a store Natsheh Gift Shop which sells a variety of unique jewellery and clothing (bring your wallet for this one) all in all we had a lot of fun and felt safe with all the police around. By the way they offer free Wi-fi which helps if wi-fi isn't free in your hotel.
