Very dirty and graffiti everywhere. Smelled like piss in many areas and the stores were mediocre. Nothing to see here if you wish to do high end shopping.
Ermou Street starts from Syntagma square and goes to Monastiraki square. There are many shops of international as well as local brands. The bargain/prices are not so attractive, you can also have a rest for a coffee or tea at the many cafes there.
The shopping district is extremely crowded and a pickpoketing is common there. Even in shops. I was in Athens with my teenage daughter. We went in to Forever 21 shop. Few minutes after my rucksack was opened and wallet was stolen. I reported it to security guard but he denied help. He couldn't check CCTV, call the police or close the store although the thief was probably there. I went to report it to the police but they didn't do much as well. I assume that pickpoketing is common in Athens so they don't do anything to fight it.
You can find just about everything on Ermou street: shops of all kinds, restaurants, cafes, churches, etc. It connects Syntagma square to Gazi. Depending on the time of day, it usually is packed.
We walked along Ermou to stretch our legs and do a little window shopping. Lots of tourist shops and cafes. Just be mindful of your personal belongings.
