“Achillion delivers everything budget traveler needs”
Reviewed July 13, 2011

Achillion is quite small budget hotel situated in Omonia district of Athens. Area is very colorful during day and night. You can easily spot prostitutes, junkies, homeless etc. Night feels bit unsafe and I wouldn't recommend to wander to alleys. Stick to main streets and you should be safe. During day its like any other part of the Athens. Location of hotel is good since its not far away from metro or major sights. Hotel is situated in street that has traffic at all times so it adds to safety and also increases chances of getting fair taxi.

Achillion itself has quite good staff and I felt respected as customer. Cleaning ladies are very nice but sometimes too eager to clean room. Whole hotel is nonsmoking.

Room was quite large but amenities are kept at minimum. Toilet packed surprise as it had good bathtub that could fit in two persons. Our Room was double but actually that just means two twin beds pushed together.Room had minibar for having your own drinks and food.

Hotel has its own bar which I didn't use but it looked like a decent one. Breakfast was varied and nice for its price. Hotel has free wireless internet but I couldn't get it working.

I would stay at Achillion again and I felt that value was very good. Great choice for budget traveler.

Room Tip: Get one next to alley

Smelly rooms/hotel; rude staff members (except lady staff and housekeeping); scary area.

Room Tip: Avoid the ones on the front and those facing wall.

having grown up in a very bad neighborhood where there were gangs and drive-by shootings, i laughed at the reviews about this location being seedy and booked a room here for two nights anyway. that was a huge mistake!!! while the hotel itself is great and the breakfast buffet is absolutely delicious, the area was terrifying both during the day and at night. groups of men followed me and my boyfriend multiple times. i was routinely leered at and ogled. i felt extremely concerned for my physical safety. i was on edge the moment i stepped out of the hotel until i got to the nicer parts of the city. i would highly suggest coughing up the money to stay in plaka or, if you absolutely can't afford it, stay further out and take the metro to the touristy areas. but honestly, i would recommend not going to athens at all at this time. the sites opened late and closed so early (many at 3pm!) that it was impossible to see everything. perhaps it would be best to visit another city (imerovigli on santorini was great) or country until greece's financial situation improves and it are able to keep the tourist sites open.

The Achillion Hotel is a good clean hotel for the price, great for anyone on a budget. The rooms are clean and the staff are polite. The area (Omonia)is slightly run down and dodgy but common sense is all thats needed. We never got bothered once at any time of the day! . Oh and go for the breakfust buffet, its good!!

One negative is that the traffic can be noisy outside!

My grad school aged son and I went to Greece for three days and arrived during the bus/train strike so we had to take a cab for 45 euros. We had read about the seedy neighborhood location of the hotel but decided to try it since it was inexpensive. During the day it was a typical city commercial area. At night on the main roads it was a bit seedy, with drug dealers and hookers hanging around the nearby Omonia metro station, but we were never hassled by the locals. My wife NEVER would have stayed here but for two guys it wasn't bad. We could walk to many sights (Acropolis, city market) and the metro station was just four blocks away (although there was a metro strike on two of the days we were there)
The hotel room was spotless and made up nicely every day. The breakfast was very generous with eggs, potatoes, bacon, and a variety of breads, jams, yogurt, and fruit. The hotel had one computer hooked to the internet and there was never a wait to get on and check email, all complimentary.
If you don't mind the neighborhood, and don't do anything stupid like walk down side streets at night, then this place is a great value.

This hotel is a grade above some of the other reasonable hotels in Athens. It is not far from modes of transportation, but I'd advise using a cab, it's only about $3 euro's to go to one of the sites! You get there faster and quicker and it's only a couple euros more than subway.
We stayed for 50 euros a night with breakfast. I say save the 10 euros for breakfast and grab something on the corner!
Hotel is close to a internet cafe...........area next to hotel is not so good but druggies keep to themselves and there is police around. We didn't have any trouble, but we weren't out late at night either!
Room was larger than most, bathroom was big and they had a tub with shower! Better than those little 3 ft squares on the floor behind the door!

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in may! There's nothing bad i can
really say bout this hotel except for thats it's in the omonia region... The staff were always very friendly and the rooms were very
clean and modern! The room had a nice plasma tv, air conditioning and
a nice bathroom and balcony! If i were to go back and stay in the omonia region of athens again i would go back to this hotel....
