I took a group of 19 to Athens in March 2014 and we stayed a total of 6 nights at Hotel Hermes. This was an excellent choice. The hotel is on the north end of Plaka, the nicest and most fun part of Athens. It is very close to the Acropolis, Syntagma Square, Monastiriki, and the Metropolitan Church. The rooms are updated, had a safe, a refrigerator, and were clean. The hotel staff speaks very good English and is very helpful. The morning breakfast is fantastic, with many options (I ate SO much yogurt). Eva, the concierge, speaks numerous languages, and her English is perfect. She can help you know where to go/what to see. Elevators work fine, though, like every hotel in Greece, if you want a workout, you can do the stairs. The only criticism I have is, like everywhere in Greece and Italy, the wireless internet is not very good--the signal is weak, download speeds are slow. They could benefit by using access points on one network instead of multiple networks. But that's a minor detail--you are in Athens! BTW there's also a store very nearby, which is nice, and may I plug my favorite gyro shop--it's called Petros, in Plaka. Also, if you have children (I have 4), they were treated well as far as breakfast goes, and there's a little play area, which is a nice touch. The beds felt very good, too. Anyway, I plan to bring my future groups here again, we were treated like kings, and the price was excellent. Dr. Doug Favelo, Assistant Professor of History, Patrick Henry College, Virginia, USA.
