The only good thing about this hotel is the location. You are in walking distance from Acropolis, Thiseio, Plaka and Syntagma square.
My room wasn't very clean , bathroom very small and the small balcony had a view to avoid.
Breakfast very poor.
Staff was very helpful but the hotel needs updating.

The hotel is not very special but for three reasons. Reason 1: the roof terrace. It is amazing because of the view one has on the Acropolis. There are other roof terraces in Athens with a similar view, but this roof garden is laid back - no pompous luxury. It presents itself as just another roof garden: it has no lounge music and no stylish waiters. You sit and relax at a very regular place but with an exquisite view. Reason 2: the receptionists. They are down to earth and never in your face. They are kind, helpful, even wise sometimes but they never ask for your attention nor do they want to sell you something. They are just kind people. Reason 3: the location. It is a few meters off track and at the same time extremely close to the tourist heart of Monasteraki. The location is slightly rough but not dangerous. Walking away from the center it can get rocky. Walking to the center and one finds a warm bath of tourist options readily available to take your order. You are at a crossroad between two different faces of Athens.

Room tip: There are rooms with a sort of view on the Acropolis.

I reviewed this first in 2013, have stayed there several times since, and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Happy to repeat what I said first time round:

Having stayed in several budget hotels in Athens, I rate this far and away the best. Yes, the rooms are old-fashioned and dated, but everything else is good. Really convenient location, especially for flea-marketeers; friendly helpful staff, clean room, fresh linen, comfortable bed, and an excellent breakfast even out of season without the roof-garden experience.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back (quieter than the street side) and on an upper floor (Acropolis view)

If they spent a few quid doing this place up it would cost at least double. The rooms are spacious and have everything . Staff lovely, location great. 2 mins walk from Thissio station and same to Plaka. Views of Acropolis, 15 min walk. Just a bit tired and needs a makeover but hope they keep as is - affordable. Very cheap at £40 per night inc breakfast. Not the Ritz but will come again and highly recommend to those like me on a budget. Thank you

Room tip: get a room at the back if you want peace - apart from the odd barking hound - quiet
