I was surprised that this was a paid location, but it is what it is. Mostly, you can get the feel for it by standing outside and viewing inward. I did not have the inclination to walk around a stadium...done enough of those. It was nice to see, impressive in what it stands for, etc.
To sit there and think of the history behind the place was so great. It was where the Olympics was started in the ancient times. Can walk around. Cheap entrance ticket. No wifi. Great place to take some snaps.
I had a quick look of this place during the sightseeing that I returned later to dedicate a visit inside to satisfy my curiosity.
Built in 19th century for the first modern Olympic games, but still nice architecture.
We got there at 9:45 and I thought there would be loads of people but we paid (not expensive and kids are free) and were the only people in the stadium for an hour. The kids had a lot of fun running races and taking photos standing on the podiums and on the thrones. If you are interested and going don't just stand outside and take photos go inside and use the free audioguide.
Some people may miss this one out but I would advise you definitely visit the stadium. It is amazing to see such a stadium made out of marble and steeped in history.
