Just to be in a place where Olympics as we know them were born is magnificent experience. If you come to Athens, and you like sports, go here and soak up in the atmosphere.

You can have a run around then stand on the podium, walk up the tunnel into the athletes area, that's quite eary. Sit for a while in the posh carved seats and let your imagination soak up what the atmosphere may have been like.
Very impressive all-marble Stadium, where the 1st modern Olympic Games were held.
You sure feel very special in there.
Worth visiting and taking some pictures.
If you' re lucky, you an also run on the charcoal
I was out for a morning run about a week and a half ago (Saturday morning) and thought about including a jog around the track. However, although I had the medical waiver form with me, I forgot to have 5 euros in my pocket so didn't go inside. Not really a big loss since the track is asphalt and not a nicer running surface. Since I didn't go in, I didn't see the museum and can't comment on that. That said, it's an easy sight to include on a drive by while you're in the Acropolis area.
The spirit that is encapsulated in this place is amazing! It makes you want to be an athlete. Again, visit here in the late afternoon or early morning. It is very hot with little protection from the elements. Make sure you take your running shoes so you can do your own lap around the stadium. Reward yourself with a ceremonial picture in the King & Queens chairs.
There is a free audio tour and a small refreshment store outside.
When walking around the Panathenaic Stadium you realise the magnitude and importance of it and the Olympic Games, if you go there and just look from the gates then you are a chimp, experience it, climb the steps, run on the track. An experience that my son and I will never forget.
